Chapter 12: The Truth Unfolds

490 Words
Lily spent the next few days in a state of turmoil. Eros had not contacted her since their argument, and she was left to grapple with her doubts and her fears. She had seen the hurt in his eyes, the anger in his voice, and she couldn't shake the feeling that she had made a terrible mistake. She tried to reach out to him, but her messages went unanswered. She tried to call him, but his phone went straight to voicemail. She was left alone, feeling abandoned and heartbroken. One afternoon, as Lily was sitting in the library, lost in her thoughts, she overheard a conversation between two students. They were talking about Eros, and they were saying things that made Lily's blood run cold. "Did you hear about Eros?" one of the students said. "He's been seeing this girl, this really beautiful girl, and he's been leading her on for months. He's a real player, you know?" Lily's heart sank. She had been right to be afraid. Eros wasn't the man she thought he was. He was a liar, a cheat, a heartbreaker. She felt a surge of anger, a sense of betrayal. She had been so naive, so blinded by love, that she hadn't seen the truth. She had fallen for his charm, his charisma, his promises, and she had been hurt. As she walked home from the library, Lily decided to confront Eros. She had to know the truth, even if it meant facing the pain of betrayal. She went to his apartment, her heart pounding in her chest. She knocked on the door, her hand trembling. After a moment, the door opened, and Eros stood there, his face pale and drawn. "Lily," he said, his voice a low murmur. "What are you doing here?" Lily stepped inside, her eyes searching his face. "I need to talk to you," she said, her voice firm. "I heard what they were saying about you." Eros's eyes widened in surprise, but he didn't deny it. He looked away, his face filled with shame. "It's true," he said, his voice a whisper. "I've been seeing someone else. I'm sorry." Lily felt a wave of anger wash over her. She had been right to be afraid. He had lied to her, betrayed her trust. "Why?" she asked, her voice cold. "Why did you lie to me?" Eros looked at her, his eyes filled with regret. "I don't know," he said. "I was afraid of losing you. I was afraid of hurting you." Lily shook her head. "You did hurt me," she said, her voice trembling. "You lied to me, you cheated on me, and you broke my heart." She turned to leave, her heart heavy with pain and disappointment. She had been so in love with him, so blinded by his charm, that she hadn't seen the truth. He was a liar, a cheat, a heartbreaker, and she was done with him.
