After making sure I was fine, Roxanne left, promising to return later in the day.
I remained alone in the room with Deucalion.
At first, I assumed he was only there on Alpha Thor’s orders, watching me and making sure I didn’t attempt anything reckless or wander into places I wasn’t meant to be in this unfamiliar pack.
But the longer I stayed under his gaze, the more uncertain I became.
His watchful presence started to feel more than surveillance. There was something else in the way he looked at me with careful intent and observation, like he was trying to solve a puzzle that refused to make sense. But I couldn't tell what exactly it was since I barely knew him or the pack.
Deucalion stood by the tall window with his arms folded, watching me without blinking.
