Once they’re in her room, Eliza sags and sits on the bench just inside the door where she keeps her boots. Ash kneels quickly and removes the boots she has on for her. Kai goes to the bedroom and starts running her a bath. She groans and lets her head drop forwards.
“Honey?” She gives him a thumbs up, but her eyes drift closed.
“Just so done with Mason, and glad he’ll be dead by the end of the day. Now I have to face the Voodoo-Witch who in all likelihood knew my mother, and me when I was a baby.” She stands and goes to the photo that’s still sitting in the kitchen. She carefully removes the picture and shows it to Ash. He smiles at it, and strokes her baby face. “Check the back.” He takes a second to read the inscription, then looks at her,
