Chapter Twenty Two The following Friday Caroline was back at Mary’s house. She was there to talk to Bailey and see what he had been able to find out. Mary led her into the lounge where Bailey was waiting. “Sam’s out and I’m going to do the washing up so you two can have some privacy.” “It’s OK,” said Caroline, “whatever it is, I want Mary to know about it too.” Bailey raised a hand in objection. “Actually, I think it’s better if we share this information with as few people as possible.” Caroline suddenly felt cold. She sat down and watched Mary leave. Bailey opened his briefcase and flicked through a file of papers.
