The sound of glass breaking snapped me fully awake. I wasn’t sure if it came from inside the house or the compound outside. Every nerve in my body screamed tension. “Adrian?” I whispered, my voice shaking slightly despite myself. He appeared in the doorway almost immediately, his face unreadable, but I could feel the weight of his presence pressing against the chaos in my chest. “Stay behind me,” he ordered softly, but there was an edge to it that made my heart race faster. We moved through the hallway silently. The shadows stretched unnaturally across the walls, twisting familiar corners into threats. My pulse hammered.
