“Don’t come any closer.” Adrian’s voice came out low, sharp, already moving as he stepped in front of me again. His body blocked my view for a second, but not completely. I could still see past him. The figure at the door didn’t stop. Each step was slow. Controlled. Like they already knew no one here could actually stop them. “That’s far enough,” Adrian added. Still, no response. I shifted slightly to the side. Enough to see clearly. Enough to confirm what my mind was still trying to reject. The face didn’t change. Didn’t flicker. Didn’t break under closer inspection. Real. Too real. “You see it too,” the figure behind us said quietly. I ignored them. My focus stayed forward. Because if I looked away, even for a second, I might lose whatever fragile grip I had on understanding this.
