“Leave the grave alone, Adrian, or your wife dies before sunrise.” The words sat on Adrian’s phone like a loaded weapon. Lucas was the first to move. He grabbed the phone from Adrian’s hand and read the message again, slower this time. “Unknown number,” he muttered. “Encrypted routing.” Adrian didn’t respond. His gaze had shifted to me. Not fear. Not panic. Calculation. Which somehow felt worse. I crossed my arms slowly. “If they wanted me dead, they could have done it already.” Lucas looked up. “You’re surprisingly calm about that.” “I’m being practical.” Adrian finally spoke. “They’re not bluffing.” The certainty in his voice made the hallway feel colder. Lucas handed the phone back. “The message came through the same network that triggered the transmitter.” Adrian’s jaw tightened.
