" No, dad, that is not possible, like seriously...NO." " But baby, there is nothing we can do but accept," my dad tried explaining, but who could accept whatever he was saying. Imagine waking up on a normal Monday going to your fathers study to greet him, and he bombards with the news that you are to wed someone you have never met in a month... lik, seriously. " Dad, how is the first time I am hearing of this?" " Baby.. You know the Omondi family, we sort of arranged your marriage with their son when you were ten years... we thought that by the time you were eighteen, we would be financially stable and would not need their support, so we would cancel the engagement last year, your mom got diagnosed with stage four cancer, and we used all the money to get her chemo so... now we are almost bankrupt. If we break the engagement now, they will also cut us off, which will leave us nowhere... so please, Amanda, do this for us, for the company ,for your mom." He said as he laid back on his chair. I looked at looked at him and wondered where my father from a year ago was. After mom got sick he was not the same his broad shoulder had shrunk and his smile which he had everywhere now was a rare occasion to see his eyes had shrunk in their sockets and black bags under his eyes was a constant thing on his face and after my mom died he rarely left the study anymore so it was understate to say the company was going under.... the hardworking dad I knew was no longer there. " So if I marry him, the company will be saved?" "Yes," "What am I to know about him?" " his name is Victor Omondi. He is 25 years old now, and he is the one running the WBA company now. that's all I know. " " Not even how he looks." " No," " Serious dad," "I'm sorry dear, that's all the Omondi's told me," I looked around the room that my dad spent most of the time. the brown colour skim of the office that matched perfectly with white paint of the room looked like my mother designed it....The room was beautiful, the brown mahogany desk was at the center of the room with the window on its left to receive the morning sunshine inorder not to cast a shadow when my father was writing early in the morning with brown curtains hanging on the side, there was a dark brown mahogany bookshelf behind the desk with many classical poems and his office files, on the right side were his academic achievements, his diploma,PhD and masters on architecture from University of Pretoria and his medals on basketball throughout high-school and University years. on the front side of the desk on both sides of the door were two plants that broke the brown colour scheme of the office. On the floor, there was a big white fur looking rug. " Your mom loved brown," " Yeah, I remember the way she used to force us to wear brown clothes on her birthday every year." " Yeah," my dad said while smiling his giving a far away look. " I would give anything to have her back when if it's just a minute." My eyes started to tear up as flashes of my mom came back to me. I would also want her back even if I had to wear the poop colour clothes she made us wear. "ok then," " ok then?" " I will get married to that stranger," " You will do it," I could see my dad's smile coming back, but I felt hopeless. "Do I have an option here at all?" "I'm sorry dear," " it's ok, dad. am going now, I have things to do to prepare for the wedding " " Everything will be fine, dear," he said, hugging me.
