"Why do you look at me like that??” Scarlet asked as she tried Voughns’ dish.
“Nothing… Are you sure you are alright?” I asked once more, just to be sure.
“I think…” She said as she ate the food.
“If something is wrong, you can always talk to your friends, Selene. No matter what is bothering your head, if you need assistance, you need to ask for it.” I whispered to her. “Besides, you turned 16, there’s a possibility that your mate is around here somewhere.”
“How-- you know about the mate thingy?” She returned the whisper. I tried to smile sweetly at her before answering.
“Yeah… and from what you said earlier, I think he’s in the room, with us, right now.” I whispered then I moved away and reach for a plate. I took that as a chance and I scooped up some food to my plate.
“Is it good?” The one who cooked asked the moment the spoon touched my mouth. I nodded at him with a shrug and an apology I wrote in my eye. "See?? Patience, lady, patience." He said and smugly sat down. I rolled my eyes at him ad turned back to Selene.
She has this disturbed look in her eyes. “Dear girl, don’t think too much of what I’ve said. It will come around soon, just wait. Okay?’ I just whispered to her again and eat the food in my plate. In my peripheral vision, I saw Voughn trying to make out of the conversation we just had. That for some reason, he seem to not be hearing. I just shrugged it off.
It took us about half an hour to be done about our breakfast. After eating, we moved hand on hand together out of the dormitory and walked on the way to the training field we are assigned to use. It did not take us that long to be there, or maybe that’s just what if felt like as there was no awkward air between us three. We are just walking normally, quiet, but not so much that turns to an awkward silence. The moment we entered, however, we were greeted with a happy atmosphere yet again.
“Happy Birthday Selene Scarlett!” The whole crew said in unison. As if they tried to rehearse how they’re going to execute their words. I almost laughed. It felt like the whole surroundings stopped the moment we entered the room. They planned this, for sure. What fun!
“Happy Birthday,” I once again whispered to here and smiled when she turned her head to look at me. I made a face, raising my eyebrows and using my eyes to gesture our dear love. She just blushed, and I excluded myself by walking and staying towards the other members who were still greeting her.
“Finally sixteen! What do you plan on doing?” It was Zyrhine who asked that. “Being the youngest in our group, and the only shapeshifter, even! What does being sixteen implies to you?”
“Zy! That is rude!” It was Wade who spoke.
“What? But why? I’ve heard being sixteen as a werewolf means that they are ready for mating.” She asked, confusion written in her face. “Are you mated? I’ve heard sixteen is when it started. All the smell and the likes? Or did I hear wrong?”
“Those are probably just rumors, Zyrhine.” The sane one, Phoenix, spoke then. He was shaking his head but he was smiling, and smiling as if really happy. For the lady, that is.
“Yeah…” Selene responded. Mellower than ever. Not her usual self, she’s always bubbly and happy. What is wrong with this day? “This is the day those things start… along with my wolf.”
“YOU HAVE A WOLF?!” Zyrhine and Wade exclaimed, in unison. They, somehow, are always in unison when in comes to shocking events, eh? “Sorry…” Zyrhine apologized. “But a wolf?”
“Uhm… She doesn’t mean a pet…” I interjected. Answering her question when the birthday girl seem to want to hide. “You did not know that?”
“Whaat?!” She inquired, just again. Raising her voice to ask, curious still. “Then what do you mean by you along with your wolf?!”
“Uhm… the wolf?”
“Yes! What does that mean?! I want to see a wolf too…!”
“Uhm… ahh… please move away?” She said, there was visible pain in her voice. I blinked.
“Why? What do you mean move?” Why do you have so many questions, Zyrhine? Gosh! Okay!
Selene, by now, is already shaking. This part really is painful for them, is it? Well, how am I suppose to know. I am not a wolf.
Then I saw them not move away, but seemingly moving even closer to the lady. They have this expression that says they fear something will happen to her. With all the shaking and pained gasps every now and then. Why don’t they know? AND WHERE THE HEAVEN IS THE MAESTRO? We don’t know how to deal with this situation, clearly!
“Okay. You wrote this! You know what’s suppose to happen! Come on, self! Think!” I talked to myself as I pace around. This is bad. I can feel my ears ringing, sight blurring around the edges, and freaking hell! My heartbeat is too fast I feel like I am about to faint!
“PEOPLE!” I shouted, clearly loud enough to take all their attentions from Selene. Who is now clearly struggling in pain. I mean, wouldn't it be painful to feel all your body parts shifting, bones reshaping, skin having fur growing on it and muscles moving around to accommodate the changes? Of course it will be! And added attention will just be additional discomfort for the lady! “Move away from her, please?”
“Why?! She’s hurting! She clearly need medical attention!” It was Voughn who shouted back at me. Worried, is he?
Selene screamed. Hurt. Crying as she probably felt every part of her shifting.
“Just, please?” I uttered. Low enough to be a whisper, but loud enough for them to hear.
I wasn’t convincing, for sure. But they moved away from her, though. Now there are four people walking towards me, away from her. That probably gives her a lot more space to consider, don’t it?
“Now, sorry if I’d ask. But I am sure one of you has the attributes of earth. Who is that?” I inquired, not shifting my gaze from Selene.
“I am.” It was Voughn who said that. Huh, okay. I guess that is good?
“We are in the middle of the field.” I’ve observed. “Well, almost. But she’ll need shelter to feel safe.” I once again hushed. “Do you think you can make her one made out of trees or vines of whatever as long as it could hide her?”
“What…? Why?” It wasn’t just him who had that question. I saw it behind the others’ eyes as well.
“Can you?”
“Yes.”
“Then do it. Now, if you please.”
He did. I don’t know what type of magic did he use for this particular trick, or how much of it did he spend, but he managed to pull it almost flawlessly. He did not grow trees, he moved them. From the edges to where we are standing now. He let it circle the lady we are worried about. The sun is still rising, but since there were much threes and leaves and vines here at this moment, we are hidden from it’s glory.
And it is visible how much he lost his energy into pulling that one. But that would help, I hope so. Since I may not be sure, but werewolves, no matter what type they are, sense comfort and assurance from the smell of their mates. That is how it works, at least as far as I remembered.
“Stay here?” I suggested to him, tapping his shoulder in the process.
“What do you mean stay here?”
“You people had asked that question more than five times now. Please just do it. We’ll let our lady explain all this things to you once it was done.” I answered. “You four, let’s move out of here.” I motioned to the others. They looked at each other, seemingly thinking. I rolled my eyes and walked pass them all. “Give her some privacy. She doesn’t want you here.”
It did not convince them that much, but when Phoenix nodded at the other three, they followed along with my footsteps. The moment we are back on the clearing, at least clearer side of the field, I was bombarded with questions.
“What is happening there?! Why do you insist in leaven her?” It was Zyrhine who asked. She was worried, alright! So that is understandable. But I am feeling a little much dizzier as she continued shaking me.
“We did not leave her alone, did we?” I asked back.
“But we only left Voughn with him! What can he do?” It was Wade that asked that. I blinked at them. Phoenix wasn’t asking questions though, does he know what is happening?
“Do you know what is happening?” I asked him, disregarding the two. He shook his head at me. This is stressful! My goodness is wrong with these people! They have a werewolf for a friend and do not know a single thing about this?!
“Mika!!” The two exclaimed simultaneously. I blinked, so very visible now. From the side of my eye, I saw Razzien confused as well, but almost laughing. That piece of s**t.
