ELLA I felt the ice shift beneath my paws the moment the connection clicked. All four wolves turned to look in my direction, but only my relatives wore smiles. It was like they knew I had finally realized who they were—and they were just as happy to see me as I was to see them. I never got to see my extended family growing up. My parents were around for a while before we were attacked, but that was it. Anyone else I might have known or stayed in contact with was long gone. So this felt like a long-overdue reunion. My only regret was that I wouldn’t be able to ask all the questions I’d kept buried for years, or stay here as long as I wanted—just soaking in their presence.
