Riley's POV I stood frozen in the kitchen long after Victoria left, her words echoing in my mind. The strawberry juice on the counter looked like blood now, sticky and red, staining everything it touched. He said 'I love you.' My hands shook as I gripped the marble countertop. The expensive stone felt cold against my palms, as cold as Brett's voice when he'd dismissed me last night. "Just talked," I whispered to the empty kitchen. "He said they just talked." But Victoria's phone glowed in my memory. That photo of them together, his arm around her, both laughing like they'd never been apart. Like I'd never existed. The elevator chimed in the distance. Brett was home. My heart hammered against my ribs as his footsteps approached. I couldn't face him. Not yet. Not with Victoria's words
