Now you’ve done it Lily. I cursed myself. He shifted his gaze to me. I gulped ready for the worst. I stared at him, unable to read his expression. “Alright class president, let’s see if you can be useful to me.” Mr. Dominic said expressionless. “I got the job?” I asked in surprise. “Of course.” He replied before going back to his work. I couldn’t believe it. I really landed a job, and not just any job, a job at IV Group, the biggest company in the country. “Thank you very much.” I couldn’t hide the excitement in my voice. I looked at John who nodded in agreement with a faint smile on his face. John and I head back out. He pointed at the other desk next to the door. “That will be your desk.” He said. My own personal desk! “Thank you.” I smiled. “I’ll be heading out now to take care of some things. I trust you to take care of Mr. Dominic.” John said. “Of course Mr. Green.” I replied. “I told you, John is fine.” He corrected me again while adjusting his glasses. “Of course.. John.” I said nervously. Soon after John left the office, I went to my work space and sat down on the chair. “Finally!” I cried in joy, hugging my table. A few hours passed and I was still in my seat doing nothing. It was silent. I wondered what Mr. Dominic was doing, he had been in there for hours without making a sound. I stood up and went to his door. I knocked. “Come in.” Mr. Dominic answered. I opened the door gently and stepped inside. He was staring straight at his laptop. Not breaking his concentration from it even when I walked in. “Would you like me to help with anything sir?” I asked. “None for now.” He answered, still on his laptop. “Okay…” I said, unable to hide the disappointment in my voice. I turned back, about to walk out of his office. “Lily.” He called in his husky voice, making me turn to look at him. “On second thought, why don’t you go get me coffee.” Mr. Dominic said, pulling out his credit card. I rushed to him and reached out to collect the credit card. My fingers mistakenly grazed over his, I felt the coldness of his skin on mine. My eyes met his, making me turn red in embarrassment. I quickly collected the card. “What would you like sir?” I asked nervously. “Anything but sweets.” He replied. “You don’t like sweets?” I asked casually, turning my head. “I prefer not to take them.” He replied to me in a casual tone also. “I didn’t know there were people who didn’t like sweets.” I blurted. “Oh my God, I am so sorry. I don’t know why I spoke like that sir.” I apologized immediately. He stared at me with a blank expression. Even though he wasn’t smiling he was still extremely gorgeous. “I like my coffee hot, be back in time.” Mr. Dominic said, shifting his gaze back to his laptop. “No… Noted sir.” I replied nervously. I looked at him one last time before exiting the office. My heart was about to explode, how could anyone be as good looking as he was? And why was I talking casually to my boss? The thought of how I spoke made me smack myself in the head. [AUTHOR’S POV] Lily headed down to the cafe across the street. She ordered for Mr. Dominic’s coffee and she was back to the office in a flash. She knocked on the door to Mr. Dominic's office and entered. Unlike before, he was now standing right in front of the painting in his office. He was on a call, his expression hardened as he spoke on the phone. “Your coffee sir.” She said almost quietly, placing the coffee on the table in the center of the office. Mr. Dominic finally turned after he was done with his call. His frown quickly disappeared. “You can leave.” He said to Lily as he walked away from the painting. “Enjoy your coffee sir.” She said. She was about to leave when Mr. Dominic called out to her again. “Miss Lily, do you mind if I ask a personal question?” He said, taking a sip of his coffee. “Yes sir.” Lily replied almost immediately. “Do you have a boyfriend?” He asked with a straight face. “What?!” Lily gasped. “Why was he asking such questions ?” She thought, confused at Mr. Dominic’s words. “Yes, no?” He asked firmly. “Well no..” she answered hesitantly. “Then would you mind-” He was cut off by the sound of a knock on the door. A figure stepped in, it was John. “Thank God.” She muttered quietly and quickly said. “I’ll be leaving now sir, call me if you need anything.” She walked as fast as she could out of his office. Leaving John and Mr. Dominic. “What did you do?” John furrowed his eyebrows as he saw the look on Mr. Dominic’s face. “What was that about?.” Lily said to herself, she couldn’t process what had just happened. She went back to her desk. “Maybe he didn’t mean anything by it.” She said, trying not to make a big deal out of what just happened. Time went by quickly and it was almost time for Lily to go home. John was still in the office. The door to Mr. Dominic’s office opened and John appeared. “Miss Lily, we’d like to have a word.” John said signaling for her to come inside. Lily stood up nervously and entered the office. “How can I help you sir?” She asked. Mr. Dominic and John were sitting opposite each other. “Please take a seat.” John said. She walked closer, her heartbeat getting faster and louder. “What is going on? It’s only my first day and everything’s a mess!” She cried internally. She finally took a seat next to John, avoiding eye contact with Mr. Dominic. “Miss Lily, We would like to offer you a deal.” John said, adjusting his glasses. “A deal?” Lily asked, confused. “Yes.” John replied “You see, we’ve been trying to seal a deal with one of our partners, but she and Mr. Dominic are quite close personally. She insists that Mr. Dominic brings a partner before she takes up our deal.” John explained. “A partner?” Lily said. “In other words, a wife.” Mr. Dominic said. “What?!” Lily exclaimed. She couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “But don’t worry, playing a fiancée should be enough to convince that old lady, and of course you’ll be compensated.” Mr. Dominic added. From then Lily concluded that Mr. Dominic was insane, and she couldn’t believe John was with him on it. “That’s crazy, how could you ask me to do such a thing! This is inappropriate!” Lily blurted out. “Forgive us for being inappropriate, but this deal is very important and you’re the closest person here. Finding another person to play that role would be a pain. And you did say you’d be useful to me.” Mr. Dominic said, mockingly. Lily’s eyes widened. “Unbelievable.” She chuckled in disbelief. John brought out a piece of paper and handed it to Lily. “There will be nothing inappropriate.” John cleared, fixing his glasses. “We just need you to act as Mr. Dominic’s fiancée to get the deal.” John stated. Lily scanned through the page, her eyes widened as she read the contract given to her.
