With this story, I wanted to do a lot of things differently, but the one angle that stands out to me is the child/pregnancy trope. I’ve always read a lot of books that utilize children/pregnancy as a trope and plot point. I’ve done it in the past with my books, but as a proud member of the child-free-by-choice community, I felt it was about time I represented that tiny section of humanity too. I wanted to subvert the pregnancy trope. My characters here are adamantly and unapologetically child-free. I apologize to anyone this might offend, but I just wanted to try something different.

This book is not ideal for anyone with fragile moral sensibilities who might be easily triggered by the actions and decisions of the main characters. This is all strictly for entertainment. I do not condone nor do I excuse some of the actions of the characters. I’m merely writing to entertain my readers!

Similarly, music is extremely essential to me as a creative writer. I depend on music as the other medium I use to inspire creativity. To me, music and literature go hand-in-hand, so every time I write, a specific song is playing in my head to accompany my scenes. I’ll say these songs are so vital to me because they’re intertwined with some of the scenes I create.

Some scenes are directly inspired by the song playing in my head at any given time. Music helps me visualize a lot. I can hear the sound in my head as the scene plays out and pours out of my fingers when I write.

For instance, the car s*x scenes are extremely fond because I can hear Beyonce’s PARTITION playing in my head. I can hear the song in the car radio as my protagonists tear their clothes off and drivers try to pretend not to notice what’s happening in the backseat.

I’m a huge fan of Chase Atlantic, Arctic Monkeys, the neighbourhood, Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Beyonce, etc. Their voices accompany me when I write. Now, this is my most basic, modern taste in music. I limit that taste to contemporary music when I’m writing contemporary works. So, you’ll find them scattered across this work. I apologize to the readers who might be offended or unimpressed by this. pardon my lack of taste, but feel free to make up your own playlist.
