TILLY Pure sunlight, warm and golden, spilled through the curtains when I regained consciousness again. I was curled up on my side beneath the soft flannel sheets and blankets, surrounded by the usual clean, masculine scent of Zadeyn. The faint chatter of conversation from downstairs trickled into the room, as did the aroma of coffee and bacon. Nothing screamed danger. It felt strangely normal, similar to my childhood and waking up to my father and sister talking downstairs in the kitchen. For a fleeting second, I relished the comfort and peace before the sound of approaching footsteps snuffed out the feeling. I could feel Zadeyn’s presence, charged and intense.
