Chapter 22 - Bring on the Heat

1804 Words
***Amber’s POV*** After the meeting with Jessica and learning everything she’s discovered, I feel like my head is spinning. I feel someone sling their arm around my shoulders, pulling me into them. Without having to look, I already know who it is. “Girl, I have a few questions for you.” Jessica whispered into my ear, and I couldn’t tell if it was good or bad. She pulled toward a bench nearby. She looked around as if she was making sure we were alone. “Breath Amber, it’s nothing bad.” I didn’t realize I was holding my breath until she said that. That’s when I noticed my lungs were slightly burning. I sheepishly smiled at her. “Thanks, I didn’t notice that.” She gave me a knowing smile and lightly squeezed my shoulder. Before it could get awkward, she turned and faced me. “So what color is your wolf? What’s her name? Have you met your lycan yet?” She was hitting me with so many questions that it was hard not to get overwhelmed. “Chill out. You’re asking too many questions at once. You’re practically making my head spin. But to answer your questions, my wolf is white, and her name is Jade.” I watched her carefully after answering all her questions, except for one. She’s silent for a while; knowing her, that’s never a good sign. Her face contorts into a mischievous grin. “Amber, why did you avoid that question? We both know which one I’m referring to. So, let me rephrase it. Have you met your lycan?” D*mn it, she knows me too well. I’ve never been able to get away with lying to her, although I rarely lied, at least to her. There’s no point in avoiding it any longer. “What do you mean? I know I’m a lycan werewolf hybrid, but I do not understand your question.” I hope she doesn’t think I’m faking because I genuinely am confused. Is she alluding that I have a different beast form? She takes a deep breath while rubbing a hand over her face. “What I’m trying to say is, you’re rare. It’s uncommon but not impossible for a werewolf to be mated to a lycan. Because it’s unusual, there’s not a lot of information about it. But from what I’ve heard, when they mate and mark each other, there’s a chance that the werewolf could transform into a lycan or vice versa.” For the second time today, I felt like my head was swimming, trying to process all of this. “So are you suggesting that I may have another beast form and that I could’ve turned Ryder?” To say that I was perplexed would be an understatement. “Wait, do you think my father changed our mom into a werewolf? Thus making her part wolf and lycan? This is all very confusing for me.” I began slowly massaging my temples because I could feel a headache forming. I almost always get headaches whenever I’m stressed out. “Yes and no. It did alter her beast form but not her abilities. A full-blooded lycan stands on their hind legs, but after your parents marked and mated, she couldn’t do that anymore. She changed and was like a regular werewolf but with lycan abilities.” It took me a moment to process everything, but soon it started to make sense. “If I’m understanding you correctly, because Ryder and I have mated and marked each other, he might become a hybrid?” I was learning so much that it was starting to scare me. I wasn’t sure how to mention this to Ryder, especially when I didn’t completely understand what was happening. “That is where it gets confusing. Lycans and werewolves aren’t normally mated toward each other. So it’s difficult to say, although you haven’t gotten your lycan wolf yet, it’s doubtful that you could’ve altered his wolf.” She said this as if it was common knowledge. Suddenly the room felt like it was getting hot, which made it hard for me to focus. “ I have a feeling there’s a but coming.” She knowingly nodded her head. “Because there is a but coming.” She giggled after saying that. “Amber, has your wolf spoken to you lately?” Her question caught me off guard. As much as I didn’t want to admit it, I haven’t heard from my wolf lately. “Honestly, I haven’t. Now that I think about it, she has been rather silent. Normally she doesn’t shut her mouth.” I paused, waiting for my wolf to say something, but I didn’t hear anything. The reality of being unable to talk to my wolf started settling in. As if she could sense my growing distress, she pulled me into a bone-crushing hug. I wanted to cry, but no tears came out. She pulled away and held onto my shoulders. “How about you go see Ryder? I have some unfinished business to take care of.” She had a sinister look in her eyes that told me all I needed to know. “Please be careful and don’t let anyone see you.” I tried to sound stern but failed miserably. She gave me that knowing look before getting up and leaving. Instead of looking for Ryder, I just wanted to nap. As I approach our room, I see the door is slightly ajar, and I could hear muffled voices from inside. I peeked into the room seeing Ryder shirtless, staring at his phone. “You don’t have to be a creep and watch me from a distance. I’m your mate, and this-” He stops mid-sentence and gestures towards his body. “Is all yours.” My mouth began to water at the sight of him. How did I get so d*mn lucky? “H..how did you know I was here?” I said this while pushing the door open and walking toward him. With each step, I took, my desire to have him grew stronger. He turned around and met me halfway. “Because I could smell you, although your smell has changed.” his piercing blue eyes were practically staring holes into me. But I couldn’t understand what he was implying. “What do you mean my scent has changed?” I was confused by his statement. “Honestly, I’m not sure, but there’s something different about it. It’s almost as if something has been added to it.” The way he spoke, it was as if he was thinking out loud. Once again, I struggled to focus on what was being said because it felt like someone had turned the heat up. “I don’t mean to sound cliché, but is it me, or is this room incredibly hot,” I said while fanning myself. With each passing second, I started to feel hotter and hotter. I glanced up at Ryder; his eyes were as black as night. Within seconds he had closed and locked the door and had his body pressed against mine. “F*ck, babe, you’re going into heat. Stay in the room, all unmated male wolves will smell your arousal, and their wolves will take over.” I didn’t pay attention to a word he was saying. The only thing I could focus on was the idea of him being inside of me; that was my main and only concern. Before he could say anything else, I smashed my lips onto his. The kiss was the most passionate and intimate kiss I’ve ever had. My body felt like someone had lit me on fire. The intensity of this heat was getting almost unbearable. I broke the kiss and started taking my clothes off, only to be stopped by Ryder. “Please allow me.” Before I had a chance to do anything, the room was filled with the sound of fabric ripping. Somehow that made my desire greater. I hope that the rooms on the upper floors really are soundproof. Otherwise, everyone is going to hear us. **Beta Jacob’s POV*** I’m not sure how long that crazy b*tch has had me held hostage here. But I’m almost certain I’ll die if someone doesn’t come to rescue me soon. But who am I kidding? Nobody is looking for me. They probably think I’m mourning my “mate.” Little did they know that I rejected her when I found out she was infertile. Although I rejected her, part of me still cared about her. I didn’t realize it until I held her lifeless body in my arms. I had spent so much time ignoring her, and now I regret every moment I took for granted. I was pulled from my thoughts when a familiar smell filled my nostrils. Dread instantly filled my body. “What are you doing!?” I whispered shouted. “Are you trying to get yourself killed? I’m a dead man walking at this point. Please leave! I don’t want you and our unborn child to die.” I was begging and pleading with Blair to leave. I don’t want my death to be in vain. She opened her mouth to say something but was cut off by the sound of the door swinging open. “Oh, am I interrupting something?” That b*tch that tortured me had a sinister look in her eyes. “I’m guessing this is your baby momma? I didn’t know that you liked sharing.” I didn’t understand what she was implying when she said sharing. Blair’s face drained of all color upon hearing that. She started crying and shaking, saying that she was sorry. “Blair? Baby, what is she talking about?” That feeling of dread intensified. “WHAT THE F*CK, BLAIR! WHAT DID YOU DO?!” Her crying only got louder the more I questioned her. “Well, since she won’t tell you, I will.” She had a cruel smirk on her face. “It’s not yours.” Initially, I didn’t understand what she was implying until it dawned on me. I looked up at Blair; she was still crying but not as hard. “T..th..the b..ba…baby. It’s not yours.” She broke down into complete sobs while I felt betrayed. I put my life on the line for her! “You f*cking w***e! I took the blame for you! For f*cks sake, I betrayed the pack, sh*t I betrayed my childhood best friend for you! You disgust me.” The last part came out barely above a whisper. I made a silent vow to myself that if I survived, I would do everything I could to ensure the plan failed. But most importantly, I WILL make her life a living hell.
