Amber's POV
I can hear machines beeping around me, but I can't seem to open my eyes or move my body. Something was off. I couldn't hear my wolf. "Jade? Are you there?" I tried to contact Ryder, but it felt like my message was hitting a brick wall. Wait, where am I? Did Blair succeed? I tried to reach Ryder again, only for the same thing. Panic settled in. What happened to me? The sound of machines frantically beeping and people rushing into the room filled my ears.
"Doctor, what's wrong? Why is her heart beating so fast?" The voice sounded familiar, but I couldn't visualize a face. I felt something sharp pierce my skin. It felt like something or someone was sitting, holding my body down. Regardless of how hard I struggled, something made my body stuck in place. I slowly felt myself getting tired. Before I drifted off to sleep, I saw something that resembled a wolf. It was all white, lying down, whimpering. "Amber, fight not only for yourself but for me and everyone else. I'm sorry I couldn't protect us; sadly, I'm too weak to heal us." The white wolf laid down, and everything went black.
***Ryder's POV***
As I walked towards Amber's room, the sound of machines was beeping, and I saw Dr. Miler and Nurse Marissa rushing into her room. I rushed in behind them, and I saw my mate, pale and frail-looking. "Doctor, what's wrong? Why is her heart beating so fast?" The doctor said nothing. He was drawing medicine into a needle. After he injected Amber with the medication, some color resurfaced on her face.
"Ryder, can you come to my office? I want to speak to you about something in private." The tone in his voice made me want to throw up. I rarely take commands from anyone, but I obeyed and followed him, given the situation. After we entered his office, he closed the door behind us.
"I will be frank with you. She's not in good shape. The amount of wolfbane in her system is far more than I initially suspected. It is also a different strain, a far more potent strain. She's currently in a medically induced coma to benefit her human form. When she's taken out of her comatose state, I'm not sure if she'll have her wolf still." When the doctor finished speaking, his eyes were full of sadness. I saw red as rage consumed my body. Jake was fighting to take over and destroy everything within sight. I looked the doctor in the eyes, but they were glazed over. He must be mind linking someone. I hear the door open, but I'm too focused on fighting Jake for control. I feel a hand grab my shoulder and pull me back. I turned my head towards the mysterious hand. And it was my mother. I could see the concern and pity in her eyes. "Ryder, let's go. It isn't good for you to see her like this," she said through our mind link. I didn't want to leave her side, but I knew standing there longer would only hurt me more. "Follow me to your father's office. We would like to talk to you about something." The tone in her voice was serious and had a hint of urgency. Whatever they were going to tell me, I knew it wasn't something good.
***Unknown POV***
"What do you mean, she's alive?! I gave you one small task, and that was to either kill her or severely injure her to weaken Ryder. How did you manage to f*ck that up?!" I was fighting to control my rage, but it was hard, especially when dealing with this dumb blonde w***e. I couldn't handle the volume of my voice as the fury in me continued to increase. "I gave you a dagger laced with strong enough wolfbane to kill ten wolves or five alphas." The i***t in front of me nodded her head. Before I could continue, I was interrupted.
"Charles, you must understand Amber isn't your average she's..."
"I don't give a damn if she's different or not, Paul! You guys were supposed to end her life, so Ryder would be weaker before I challenge him for the alpha title!" My breathing was becoming erratic. It has been more challenging for me to control my wolf since I've become a rogue. I've been exiled for too long, and it's about time I take everything back that was wrongfully stolen from me. I will take my rightful place as alpha of the Silver Moon Pack.
***Amber's POV***
I keep floating in and out of consciousness, and it's like I'm in a constant state of limbo. "I never thought I would get to see you all grown up." Looking around, I'm standing in an all-white room, and I'm wearing an all-white sundress. Where did that voice come from? Am I losing my mind? "Amber, turn around." Turning around, I see the last person I was expecting to see, my mom.
"Mom? I thought you were dead? Wait, am I dead? Is that how I'm able to see you?!" I panicked as images of Ryder rushed through my mind. I heard her giggle, and it was like music to my ears.
"No, sweetie, you're not dead, although you might be unless you fight to survive. You're a Lycan. You have special abilities which make you a threat to people. My unique ability was fighting, and my mother's ability was healing. It'll reveal itself when the time is right." I was absorbing this information and trying to make sense of everything.
"Mom, can I hug you, please? I want to feel your touch one last time." I moved towards her, and when I went to hug her, she was gone. Suddenly, I felt my eyelids get heavy, and everything went black. I woke up to the sound of machines again, although I could open my eyes this time. Lifting my arm, pain shot up my arm, causing me to drop my arm. The door bursts open, and I see nurse Marissa and a doctor enters the room. The look on their faces was one of joy and happiness across their faces.
"Oh, my goddess, you're awake! Our luna is alive! How do you feel?" I was being flooded with questions, and my head felt like it was spinning.
"Nurse Marissa, please calm down. You're overwhelming her with all of your questions."
"Sorry, Amber, I got overly excited." She was grinning ear to ear.
"It's okay. But how long have I been out?" The look on their faces made me uneasy. "Please tell me! How long have I been out!" The desperation in my voice was apparent. "Jade? What happened?" My wolf didn't reply to me. I could barely sense her presence, and it was like she was hibernating.
"Amber, please calm down. I need to check your vitals and run some tests." After he finished checking my vitals, he pulled a seat to the side of my bed. "You've been unconscious for about four weeks. They laced the knife you were stabbed with an outrageous amount of wolfbane. The amount should've killed you. It's a miracle that you're alive. At first, your wolf was trying to heal you, but it only made her weaker because of the wolfsbane. We saw signs of her slipping away. So I placed you in a medically induced coma to protect her and hopefully prevent you from losing your wolf." I didn't know how to feel. Knowing that I almost lost Jade caused me to feel unexplainable emotions.
"Wait, where's Ryder? I want to see him." I didn't intend for my voice to come out like I was begging, but I needed to see him. I want to know that he's okay.
"Amber, try to get some rest. I will let him know that you're awake." It was evident that the doctor was hiding something. After discovering that everything I believed about my parents was a lie, I'm tired of being kept in the dark. Someone needs to tell me the f**king truth!
"No! I can tell you're hiding something. Tell me the truth and the entire truth. Leave nothing out." My voice held the sound of authority. It felt amazing but also scary. I've never been the type to be authoritative. Dr. Miller's eye grew wide as his lips started to tremble.
"He..he..he's in the dungeons interrogating two traitors because someone is targeting you. Ryder has me under strict orders to keep you here and not to let you know anything." While he was speaking, I could tell he was trying to fight to keep himself from saying anything.
"Doctor, are you okay? It looked like you were fighting to prevent yourself from telling me." I c*cked an eyebrow at him while saying this. Are my eyes playing tricks on me, or was he sweating profusely?
"Well, if you'll excuse me, Luna Amber, I must go." He spun around and practically ran out of the room. I began to feel lonely, so I figured I might as well try to reach my wolf. "Jade? are you there? Please don't leave me. I know we just met, but you're part of me, and I can't lose you. But let me sleep. I need my rest so we can heal faster."
"I'm still here. They have to try harder if they want to kill us." It brought me both joy and sadness at hearing my wolf. I'm happy she's alive, but she sounded so weak. If it's rest, we need for us to heal. Leaning back, I closed my eyes and fell back asleep.
***Ryder's POV***
I've been torturing this filthy rogue for hours now. I have beaten him within inches of his life, pulled all of his fingernails off his right hand, and broken his legs in multiple places. "Since you're unwilling to cooperate with me. Someone bring me a scalpel! Our little friend over here wants to act like he has balls of steel. I'll remove them." The room filled with the smell of fear.
"Dude, you're seriously going to cut his nuts off?" My beta, Luke, linked me. I could hear the horror and disgust in his voice.
"Hopefully, I won't have to, but I will if it means I get to find out who's targeting my mate." My voice was laced with venom and anger. My beta approaches me with the scalpel and gloves and places them in my hands. I turned my attention back to the rogue, and he was dripping with sweat and was shaking with fear.
"Okay, I'll talk, I'll talk!" I didn't hide the smile that spread across my face.
"I know little about them, except its two guys and a girl. The guys' names are Paul and Charles. I've had little interaction with the girl. From what I know, she's part of this pack." The look on the rogue's face showed he was being honest.
"You just saved your nuts," I said while lightly chuckling. "Alright, guys, snap his neck." I turned to leave when he said something that made my blood run cold.
"The guy that's the head of all this, Charles, he says he is the true alpha of this pack and that he has alpha blood!" He sounded frantic.
"Keep him alive for now. I need to check the validity of his statements." I linked the guards. As I was leaving the dungeons, I received a mind link from the doctor stating that Amber was awake but that I needed to come to him first. Dr. Miller sounded like he was trying to suppress the sound of urgency in his voice. I took off in a sprint, using my alpha speed to my advantage. It took all of my control not to shift. I got to the hospital faster than I expected. Without thinking, I shoved the front doors open, and Dr. Miller was right there waiting for me. He motioned for me to follow him to his office. For some reason, the air in the hospital felt different. It seemed to be denser. Something wasn't right. Upon entering the room, I noticed both of my parents were sitting there. It took them a second to realize I was there.
"Ryder, please have a seat. I promise I won't take long." I nodded to him and took the seat next to my father, and he seemed to be deep in thought. "We all know that Amber is a Lycan, and sometimes they have powers or special abilities. I know her mother's power was fighting. I say this because I think Amber's special ability was revealed to me today." Hearing him say that my mate revealed something to him caused me to release a deep primal growl. My father gave me a death glare that made me submit.
"I'm sorry about that, Doctor; please continue." This time it was my mother who spoke for me.
"I'm not sure, but I think her power is to force people to tell the truth. Alpha Ryder had ordered me not to tell Amber that he was interrogating a rogue. She finally demanded that I tell her, and I don't know how or why, but my mouth moved on its own. We all know that it's almost impossible to disobey an alpha's order." After hearing this, the room became silent. "Oh, Amber is doing far better and can leave the hospital as long as she stays on bed rest. I think if she's able to be with her mate, it'll help her heal faster." After hearing the doctor say that last part, Jake was wagging his tail and excited to see our mate. "Oh, he suggests we be with our mate." I mentally rolled my eyes. "Stop being such a horny dog."
"Thank you, Dr. Miller." My father stood up and shook his hand. "Ryder, come to my office and bring Amber with you. She should know what's going on, and she might be able to help us." I nodded my head and went to her room.
"How's my beautiful ma-" Her room looked fine, but she wasn't there. I sniffed the air, and her scent was very faint. She has been gone a long time. My eyes quickly landed on a note someone had placed on her pillowcase. "Your father doesn't deserve to be alpha, nor do you. He stole what was rightfully mine, and if I can't hurt him, I'll hurt you." After reading it, I started to shake with rage. Before losing control and destroying everything in my path, I linked my father and our betas, alerting them about the situation. As much as I wanted to shift and kill the first thing I saw, I knew that right now, my focus should be on whoever took Amber.
***Amber's POV***
I felt myself being moved. I tried to fight whatever was carrying me, but their hold on me was too tight. I tried to see if I recognized anything. That's when an all too familiar scent hit me. Why would he take me? Why would the man that faked being my father kidnap me? I tried to focus on any other smells, and most of the unfamiliar scents smelt like rogues except for one. A wolf has to be stupid to betray their pack. But that she did doesn't surprise me. "So when you take over as alpha, you swear to make me your luna?" Gosh, Blair's voice was annoying. But what does my alleged father, Blair, and I have to do with anything?
"Can I be the one to kill her?" If I weren't restrained right now, I would've ripped her throat out. I heard a loud slapping noise. "NOBODY WILL BE KILLING HER. DO I MAKE MYSELF CLEAR?!" Whoever just yelled, their voice held power. It was almost as if they were an alpha, but they didn't give off an aura of an alpha. I must've been inside a car because suddenly everything stopped moving. "Bring her upstairs to my bedroom. Make sure you chain her up well. I would hate for her to get awake before our night of fun." Before I knew it, I was throwing up. I threw up in the voice's direction.
Suddenly I was kicked in the stomach. Someone grabbed me by the chin and roughly pulled me close to their face. Before they could get a word out, I spit in their face, head butted them and heard a sickening crunching noise. Whatever they used to blindfold me fell off, and it took me a second to adjust to the sunlight. I noticed the person I hit sort of resembled Alpha Blake. I saw him get up, and I felt someone grab me from behind. I glanced out of the corner of my eye and saw it was the man that raised me. My blood began to boil. The same rage I felt before my first shift was back.
I felt him drop me to the ground, and I heard the sounds of gasps before the sound of bones breaking drowned it out. I opened my eyes, and everything was clear. "Amber, let's take these bastards out." The amount of anger and hatred in Jade's voice scared me for a moment. I stepped back and gave Jade complete control. I watched as she quickly took a dive and was ripping the throats out of any rogue that tried to stop her. Then her gaze fell onto the man that raised her. Before everything, she would've smiled and been happy to see him, but now all she wanted was his blood. She dove at him, and he quickly shifted and dodged her attack. Before she could attack again, the sound of her yelping was heard by anyone nearby. Turning back into her human form, Amber looked over to see Blair injecting a needle into her neck before she collapsed to the ground, paralyzed.
"S**t, she's one h*ll of a fighter and she has one h*ll of a body." I couldn't move to see who it was that said that. I felt someone touch my a**. "Don't bother chaining her up. She'll be paralyzed for a little while. But put her in my room and don't bother trying to cover her up. She won't need clothes for what we'll be done." I wanted to scream, cry, and fight back but it was pointless. I couldn't stop the tears that started falling. The thought that my first time would be like this was sickening. I felt another needle stick me and my eyelids became heavy as they quickly shut.
