My life was empty. Ever since I became an adult it felt like everyday is just a repeat of the other. I would wake up in the morning, go to work, get to bed and then repeat the next day. For holidays I usually go to somewhere and breathe fresh air or finish up some projects, yet even that it feels like a chore, no matter how many times I pretend it feels new.
My name is Louise Franco, team leader in one of the most prominent manufacturers of robotic technology. I wake up 5 o' clock in the morning, do my morning stretches and prepare my breakfast and lunch. After breakfast I prepare myself for work. Getting a vehicle would cost a lot in the long run, so I commute by train instead. While commuting I take a look on the current issues and trends, especially the opinion of people on our products. At 12 in the noon I take my lunch, I usually eat with my team and share in their chat, but after that it was the usual work until it was time. After my team went home I would then soon follow and go home myself. I would cook myself up some dinner before preparing to go to sleep. Before I sleep, I check my emails and answer to it accordingly and then I would sleep. As you can see I have a synchronized schedule, and while I do wish for my life to get interesting, that would mean I would have to start on a clean slate. I would never bother with anything that would not affect it however, if it were necessary I would personally take action.
Well that was supposed to be the case.
"I-is that him?! The saviour that Goddess Arawahn sent to us!"
A robed man exclaimed. He appears as an occultist and I do not have any wish to get myself caught up with anything of their nonsense. I turned around to the corner I went from and noticed that as I turn my head, my surroundings appear to have distorted, like two paints meshing together. The more I move the more my environment settles down, however by the time it calms it seems that I have been sent to a rather well lit place. Possibly at the top of a tower?
I turn my head towards the man I saw and it appears that he wasn't alone. In an instant, the sole cult member turned into a group, surrounding me in a circle. Further back there seems to be more people. A party of cosplayers, one dressed as a knight, a mage, an elf and a furry. The second I saw the cult member I knew they were bad news, but looking further it seems like the situation was simply a prank.
"A sacred arm! He really is the saviour the Goddess sent to us! We express our eternal gratitude to you, Goddess of Life."
The cult members then bowed fanatically.
"Everybody stand back! That guy is no vessel of light. Look closer to his weapon, it's a Necronomicon!"
I was taken back by the loud voice of the knight. The large armored figure approached, halberd ready to cut me down any moment. The other party members then draw their weapons and the furry seemed ready to pounce.
"Tch, I don't have time for cosplayers."
I said under my breath. I pulled my sleeves to check the time, it's 7:38 AM, I only have barely enough time to catch up.
"Sorry, but I don't really have time for pranks."
I figured just moving on would somehow remove whatever tricks they made. I work in a technology company so this is nothing new, the only thing that would make me wonder is how they were able to achieve such realistic CGI and made a hologram even.
I held the tip of her spear and pushed it away. The knight only stared at me behind the thick helmet she wears. She and her party members remained tensed, but they let me pass through.
Now considering my position from earlier, I suppose I only need to walk forward. I walk over to the edge, I can feel the wind brushing through my face. I look down and see the height of this place, it was enough to barely recognize anything below as human, but even so it seems incredibly detailed. This level of graphics would surely be the head of the news, but I did not read any of that this year. Let's calm down, Louise. Such an accomplishment would not go unheard in my workplace, but then, if that is the case. Where am I?
"May I ask where am I?"
"Heretic as you may, I suppose you do have a right to know where you are. You are at the top of the Temple of Prayers in the Holy Kingdom. Surrender yourself before we force you to comply."
The knight answered, her guard still up. However, what would me, a mere ordinary human did to make them so tense up? I suppose the answer lies on the orbiting book around me. What did they call this again? Sacred Arm? Necronomicon?
As I recall a necronomicon is a book containing dark spells that can resurrect the dead and have them follow the caster's commands. That is as far as I know from the games I have played. Usually, people are tempted to touch the book and become a necromancer, pushing them to do the worst.
"Enough with the hostility. I don't recall having this book before I came to here. I was simply going to work before I get caught up to whatever you all are trying to do."
"A-ah! Why, Goddess?! Why must you give a guide of darkness?"
The cultists then desperately prayed and seek answers. The knight then approached me, tied my hands and put a cloth in my mouth, possibly to prevent me from speaking.
"As long as you comply with these procedures then we would gladly escort you safely to the throne room. As for this book, we will be taking it to custody."
She stated before catching the book. However, as soon as she held it in her grasp it simply vanished and reappeared again. Under her breathe, I hear her mutter.
"It really is a sacred armament. Then the Goddess..."
Her tone had a hint of hopelessness, but paying no mind to it. I simply followed the group to the throne room, hoping for the best.
