Bella

“I swear, Leila, if Mom and Dad find out about this, they’re going to kill us,” said a young woman around eighteen as her sister dragged her through the crowded city streets. Both girls were dressed in revealing outfits, and Bella could hear men whistling at them as they passed. “Stop acting like such a prude, Bella. We’re not little kids anymore,” the girl in front shot back. Then she added, “We’re about to be adults, we finished high school, and we’re going to college soon. You seriously need to loosen up a little.” Leila stopped walking and gave her sister a disapproving look. Bella lowered her eyes and nodded quietly. “Sorry, Leila,” she murmured before allowing herself to be pulled along again. Leila was Bella’s role model. The moment she heard that Bella’s favorite reggaeton artist was performing at the grand opening of a new club that night, Leila had worked for nearly a month to save enough money for tickets. Even though their parents would probably lose their minds if they found out, Bella was still happy to spend the night with her sister. Especially knowing Leila had done all this just to make her happy. When they finally reached the entrance, they found a massive crowd already gathered outside the club. The bouncer looked overwhelmed by the number of people trying to get in, and soon two more large security guards came over to help control the line. They ordered everyone to calm down, warning that anyone causing trouble would be kicked out and have their concert tickets torn up. Bella immediately clutched her ticket to her chest. She didn’t want all of her sister’s hard work to go to waste. Leila took her hand. “Relax, Herminia. I’m not letting anything ruin the day you finally get to see Paolo live,” she said reassuringly. Soon it was their turn to show their tickets. The bouncer studied both girls carefully while Leila started getting impatient. Bella worried they were about to get asked for ID. The problem was that neither of them was technically eighteen yet. Leila would turn eighteen in two days, and Bella in two months. Legally, they were still minors. “Hey, you’re not really going to stop us from going in, are you?” Leila asked, grabbing Bella’s hand again. “It’s my little Herminia’s dream to see Paolo perform. She worked so hard for this. Please don’t turn us away.” Leila gave the man her best puppy-dog eyes and motioned for Bella to do the same. “Please, tío,” Bella pleaded softly. The bouncer sighed in defeat. “Fine. But this is the last time. Next time, at least wait until you’re legal adults, alright?” The sisters burst into relieved laughter and thanked him repeatedly. “Don’t worry, tío. Next time we definitely will be,” Leila promised confidently. Finally, they stepped inside the club. The noise outside was nothing compared to what waited indoors. The music blasted through the room so loudly it felt like the walls, the floor, and even the people themselves were vibrating. Bella could practically feel her heartbeat syncing with the bass. Colored lights flashed across the dance floor like something out of a Star Wars battle scene, and the whole place looked exactly like the glamorous American clubs they had seen in movies. For a moment, the sisters felt like celebrities themselves. The atmosphere was intoxicating. Bella stared around the club in fascination as people pushed past them from every direction. “Watch where you’re going, assholes!” Leila snapped after someone bumped into Bella. Bella quickly grabbed her arm. She knew her sister well enough to realize she was fully capable of starting a fight right there. And if that happened, they would get thrown out before even seeing Paolo perform. “Calm down, Herminia. I’m okay,” Bella said softly. “I’m the one who wasn’t paying attention.” The man who bumped into her turned around with an annoyed look. “This is the dance floor, girls. Either dance with us or move somewhere else,” he said. That only irritated Leila more, but Bella quickly pulled her away from the crowd. “What a jerk,” Leila muttered angrily. A waiter soon approached their table to take their order. “No thanks. I don’t drink alcohol and...” Bella started to say, but Leila cut her off. “Bring us two cocktails,” she ordered. “And since my little Herminia is so innocent, make hers extra sweet.” Bella shot her sister an irritated look. “Bella, we’re not babies anymore,” Leila said. “You can’t come to a club and order milk. Seriously, grow up a little.” Not wanting to upset her sister, Bella stayed quiet. A few minutes later, their drinks arrived. Bella watched Leila empty her glass in one gulp and copied her without thinking. It turned out to be a huge mistake. After that, everything became a blur. When Bella finally woke up, she found herself alone in an unfamiliar bedroom. She was wrapped in bedsheets and immediately felt a deep sense of panic and discomfort. Her eyes widened in horror when she noticed blood on the white sheets. Something terrible had happened.
