***Kai***
I approached her house carefully, making sure no neighbors or passing cars saw me. I feared if they did see my shifted form, it would give them quite the fright. I paused by the tree line, scanning the area, and decided to do a perimeter run to make sure it was clear and safe. After thoroughly checking the surroundings, I could not help but feel pulled closer to the house, to where Jane was inside. I had a growing desire to be near her, it was as if an invisible cord were pulling me closer to her.
I found myself just under her window as she walked in the bedroom, and froze as she came closer to my location. Her sweet scent enveloped me as she lifted her window open, and I resisted my urge to jump through that small entrance to be nearer to her still. I was surprised she did not seem to sense my presence nearby, as before I could tell the mate bond did affect her at least a little. Even during our first meeting when I caught her in my arms, I noticed her inhaling my scent. That is not something a normal human would do.
I curled up in my shifted form, prepared to keep watch the rest of the night, a silent vigil for my mates protection. I had expected her to slowly fall asleep, but instead it seemed she was more exhausted than I was aware of. For she was passed out almost instantly. I was about to investigate and check on her when I smelled the aroma of chocolate, cinnamon and sandalwood. For some reason it seemed to make me drowsy, and stranger still it seemed to overwhelm Jane’s scent. Subduing it to the point I could barely smell it. I tried to keep my eyes open, feeling that something was off. But just as the thought to call for backup came into my mind, I fell fast asleep.
~ I found myself in a place I did not recognize. The surrounding architecture seemed to be influenced by the Roman builders of old. With wide open archways, and pillars at every turn. Marble statues that were reminiscent of Michelangelo, and Donatello decorated the area. The air was warm and humid, and full of the perfumes of flowers as if I had been transplanted into a tropical paradise. The smell of chocolate, cinnamon and sandalwood pulled me in the direction of an archway that led through a long corridor. My paws made no sound as I slowly walked down the marble pathway, coming upon two huge double doors at the end, beautiful wooden carvings decorated its surface. As I gazed at the door, I thought It seemed a bit familiar. It brought up memories of a tale told to me long ago.
I did feel as if something important were behind those doors, but I couldn’t remember what. My mind felt as if it were in a fog, and I couldn’t arrange my thoughts clearly. All I could think of was that smell, and that I wanted to be closer to it still. That is until I heard her voice that snapped me back to reality. I don’t know how I could hear her from the other side of the doors, but that was definitely Jane. Once I heard her speak, it was as if the fog had been lifted. I felt my mate bond pull to her, and knew I had to get inside that room. Somehow I knew she was in danger. I ran back a few paces, and ran full force at the door, shattering it to pieces.
Once through the entrance, I was shocked at the sight before me. Jane was in the arms of another man, but not just any man, a vampire. A high ranking one too judging by the power that was emanating off of him. But he had his hands all over my mate. I was going to kill him. He looked up in fear the moment I crashed through the doors, and immediately flew back, and as far away from me as possible. Yea that’s right, you should be scared. I was about to go tear his head off when I heard Jane gasp. Just that slight noise was enough distraction to allow the vampire to make a move back towards Jane.
I jumped and placed myself between Jane and the vampire before he could get any closer to her, and roared at him in warning. Letting him know just who he was dealing with. The vampire's face turned from one of fear to anger, as I felt a power build up within him, as if he were preparing to strike. Then Jane let out a shrilling scream that reverberated deep into my soul.~
I awoke to the sound of screaming, Janes screaming, and was instantly on high alert. What was it? What was going on? The vampire! Wait, was that a dream? I quickly got into a defensive stance, looking to find what she was screaming about.
Her bedroom door flew open and El and Melanie came crashing into her room.
“Jane! Jane, wake up!” I tried to peak my head slowly over the window pane to get a look at what was going on.
“OMG!” Melanie exclaimed as she saw me. I ducked back down.
“What! Did you see something?” El asked.
“It’s not important.”
“Kai whatever the hell your doing here, get the f**k out! You're going to scare Jane even more!” Melanie linked me.
“No. I think she was just psychically attacked by a high ranking vampire, using a dream share, and I was pulled into it somehow. I’m not leaving my mate unprotected.”
“Well, at least stay out of sight or something.” Melanie said.
That I could do. Infact, I could do one better. While the girls were talking I mindlinked Jason and had him send a couple of warriors over here to guard Jane.
“Melanie? El? What are you doing in my bedroom?” Jane asked groggily.
“You were screaming in your sleep Jane. Are you okay?” El asked worriedly.
“Yea, I think I’m fine. It’s just there was this huge lion, and his roar sounded like it could bring a building down.” I smiled at that. She remembers me from her dream. I wonder if I could bring a building down, that would be an interesting talent to possess.
“It was just a dream, try to go back to sleep, okay?” Melanie suggested.
“Yea, that sounds like a good idea, I feel so drained. Sorry for waking you guys.” And with that the girls left the room, and I could hear Jane lay back down.
She didn’t fall back asleep right away, I could hear her tossing and turning for about half an hour. Once she did, I got up and did another perimeter run, and then found my way back under her window.
As I lay there waiting for the first rays of dawn, I began to think. First we had the vampire attack at the joint gathering, then Jane was psychically attacked by a vampire. Only certain high ranking vampires had enough power to be able to do that. I thought they had to be in close proximity to be able to pull it off. But I ran several miles around her property and found nothing. I’d have to look more into it later. All together though it’s just too much of a coincidence. Jane seems to be a target for some reason, but why?
Somewhere between trying to think of reasons why she would be targeted, and coming up with plans for an investigation the next day, I fell asleep once more. Only this time the dream I was pulled into was completely different.
