Chapter 6

Nadia was on her office, checking some patient’s records. Since she pulled out herself from having or taking some patients because of what happened last time, she just spend her time on her office and focus on Ignacio virus. She put her hands and lapped her forehead. And rolling the ball-pen on the table. She is alone and nothing to do. The doors opened wide, and Nurse Kim is coming.

“Professor Nadia, Director Yoro will coming. He will going to have a reporting at the conference hall. And he asked you to report at least one patient record that still exist in this hospital.” Nurse Kim who is on the uncomfortable look.

“Geez. Why today?” Nadia fold her forehead by her hands.

“You don’t have choice. Thank you!” Nurse Kim slam the door and leave out.

Nadia stood up, wear her doctor’s suit. She stop for a while because she think what to bring and what to report. Because she is out of her mind today since there’s a lot of problem she has right now. And she can’t take over with this if the situation will be still like this.

She walked soulless to the conference hall, hugging with her the patient’s record. She plan to report Ignacio case—to open up, would everyone aware on what they have to do. Since Ignacio case is complicated than HIV. She doubted open the door, her heart burst its beats, since it’s urgent and she was not able to prepare.

Inside the hall, the director of the hospital, with ten professor and CEO, then all the major nurses around. She glance around, Director Yoro stared at her suspectedly. “Since everyone are already here, let’s start now the session.” Yoro arrange the checklist in front of his table. “Requested Professor Goo, to guide today’s session.”

Professor Goo went in front to open the session. “A month ago, one of the patient died of her critical condition. And she was one of Prof. Nadia’s patient. The surgery was not successful and it made Nadia lost her hope after all. Now today, we come up to another critical condition and we don’t know how to cure it since its complicated virus.”

“What do you mean virus?” Director Yoro asked.

Professor Goo, signal his hand to request Nadia to come in front to report about this problem. Nadia open the Ignacio’s record. “According to the brief examination of the patient, we found that he was infected by a virus. A virus that came from animals. According to the patient’s information, he was a doctor and a veterinary physician thirty-two years ago. He get this virus called as AIV from his previous patient. We tested hiss blood to make sure, but we found how the virus eat his veins, attack all the red and white blood cells. And it cause him a looseness of breath.”

“Where did you put the patient?” Director Yoro asked that show curious on his eyes.

“We put him in ward were no one can get in to avoid infection. Because even you didn’t touch the patient still you can inhaled the virus. So, everyone are prohibited to get inside and restricted personnel are allowed. Last week, the patient suffered severe pain and it’s almost died. We put necessary medicine to him and fortunate its pulse goes to normal. The patient keep on screaming every now and then suffering pain in his whole body. But then, we didn’t know how to cure the patient, but we are still on our thorough examination.”

“These was the complicated problem that we have in this hospital. Director Yoro, how can we solve this problem?” Professor Dong asked spinning his ball-pen on the table.

“I trusted you all. Do your best as you can do. Or maybe let’s send the patient in Australia, for the operation.” Director answer Prof. Dong. “Professor Nadia, let’s keep this problem only in this hospital. Avoid spreading it to the crowd or in the media because I big problem will happen. Let’s keep it as a secret. Deal.” Everyone agree on the deal, since it is for their own sake actually. “Consult the patient every day.”

After the one hour session, Nadia went to the cafeteria to have some snack, because she was not able to have her breakfast. She take a Hawaiian Pizza and a cappuccino. Alone. She remember Kylie case. It keep on popping on her mind. Conscience. She stood up, leave her food on the table, walk too rush, get in the elevator, get her cellphone and dial Prosecutor Kurt’s number. Ring. Ring. Ring.

“Hello?”

“Prosecutor Kurt, let’s meet. I have something to tell today. Where are you?”

“I’m on my way to the hospital. I’m going to visit my father. Let’s just meet there.”

“Okay, at the balcony that we usually meet.”

“Okay!”

She directly went to the balcony she have mention. Since Kurt is not yet around, she feel the moment on how she walk. Flipping her hair by the wind, and it makes her gorgeous. She stood where they stood last time. She remember on how she was pulled by Kurt to his chest. She shook her head not to think of it but it doesn’t leave her mind. Someone calling behind her. She turned her head and she saw Kurt coming to her with a big smile on his face like this is their first time seeing each other.

“Hey, how long I made you wait?” Kurt sighed.

“Not quite. Kurt I called you this time not because of what you think but because I’m going to help you about Liam case.” She freakily smile.

“Okay, that’s good. Actually, I only gathered few information about his case. And I was think on how I can help him, this way.” He nodded.

“I’ll be meeting someone tonight, and I hope you will come maybe around eight o’clock in the evening. I want you bring at least one cop. Tonight will be a big revelation. I’m just doing to because I want to help you. Since I realized if I followed someone’s advice will put me in a complicated situation. It’s better to tell the truth than to lie.”

“What do you mean?” Kurt shows curiosity on his face.

“Because if do it, I will lost everything. And it’s good than to lost everything with a purpose than anything without a purpose.” Nadia shed her tears down to her face.

“You cried?” Kurt hold her hands.

“No. Just tears of joy. Because I made you happy and comfortable. I’m going now.”

Nadia leave Kurt, while shedding her tears. She wipe it out on her hands and never look back to Kurt. She’s just get hurt because she’s trying to break their friendship.

And it’s better. Nadia thought.

Seven-thirty P.M. Nadia meet Kylie in the dorm where she stay. Actually, she didn’t went to the other country. She just say it to hide herself from the authority. Nadia lied to Kylie. She said they will going to meet because Nadia will help her. She fooled her friend. Before they went inside the Kylie’s dorm, they make sure that no one see and followed them. Nadia seated at Kylie’s bed. She’s wearing with her dark sweater since its cold outside.

“Make sure Nadia that no one ever followed you. Or else they will see me.” Kylie keep on walking in front of Nadia, she can’t settle down.

“Promise. I’m going to help that is why you can leave here as soon as possible.” Nadia act as normal, though she feel nervous and panic.

“Good. I want you that. Thank you.”

“Kylie, can we talk? What happened? If it wasn’t your intention, why you are hiding? You just keep yourself being guilty. Kylie, don’t be mad at me. Why you don’t want to surrender to the authority—

“No.” Kylie shouted, she’s getting mad right now.

“They listen to you. I’m going to help you. Let’s find a Prosecutor that will help you. Perhaps, he can help you because he is a good prosecutor after all.”

“How dare you! I won’t do that.” She shouted again, and she’s trying to punch to wall but she realized its hurt so she just slapped herself.

“Tell me what happened. I will listen.” Nadia hold Kylie’s wrist to calm her down. “Tell me.”

Kylie cried quietly. “He fooled me. He has another woman. We’re getting married but he hurt me. He has an affairs to another woman. That is why I planned to kill him after he did to me. It really hurt Nadia.” she cried out.

“Don’t worry, everything’s will be okay.” She tightly hugged Kylie.

Not too late, the door was pushed by Prosecutor Kurt and three cops too hard, pointing the gun to Kylie. And it made them surprised. Kylie gets afraid and panic printed on her face. And still she hugged Nadia and hide face. She’s crying.

“Kylie, we’re arrested you in the name of killing Mr. Liam.” Prosecutor Kurt profess.

Kylie pushed Nadia away. “What do you mean by this? Nada!” she shouted at Nadia. “Are you involved? How dare you to lie at me? Did you out of your mind already?” she keep on shouting, like she was possess by a demon. She was arrested, and a cop put a handcuff to Kylie. But still, she keeps on shaking like she want to get out. “Remember this Nadia, everything is not yet done. Just wait for my revenge.” Then, the cops bring Kylie out. Nadia bumped herself on the bed and cried. Kurt hugged her to calm her down. Like she’s regretting.

“Calm down.” Prosecutor Kurt said. “It was not your fault. I’m proud and thankful of you because you help me to solve this problem.”

“Kurt, she is my friend. And promise me that you won’t hurt her. Keep her safe.” Nadia cried at Kurt chest.

“Promise.”

Luke visit Kylie in the jail. Since they need to wait one week for the due process. “It’s Nadia’s fault. If not because of her, I am not here this time.” She cursing.

“Don’t worry, I’m going to talk to her.”

“Make sure. If not, I’m going to kill her if I can get out of here…..Luke, please help me.”

“I’m searching for an Attorney for you. Don’t worry everything will be alright. Just trust me.”

“Thank you!”

“I need to go, since the time is limited. I’m just going to visit you next time.”

Since, only one hour is the time allotment for the visitation. Luke bring with foods for Kylie. Since no one can visit her except Luke.

Luke ask Nadia to meet each other at Dong Goo River. There, they need to talk an important matter. Yes, Luke will summon her if they meet. After doing this to Kylie. Luke can’t wait to Nadia. He going to burst his anger to her.

“Luke?” Nadia’s voice behind him. He never turn his head to see him. He just wait Nadia to come closer. “Luke?”

“Nadia, why you do this to her? I thought were okay now. But what happened? You made everything complicated and you’re trying to break our relationship as a friend.” Luke summoned her directly. Nadia surprise of what his saying and it made her shed her tears.

“Luke, I’m just trying to help her.”

“What?” he shouted. “You’re trying to help her or you’re trying to help the authority to arrest her?”

“No. That doesn’t mean.”

“Then, what?” he shout again.

Luke is at mad.

“I’m just trying to help her to confess in the court. If it is not her fault, why she need to hide. There’s no way to afraid of if it is not her intention.” Nadia continue on sobbing. “You’re wrong. I don’t want to broke our relationship as a friend because you’re the only one who remain as my family and who made me happy when I am sad, who made me comfortable when I’m not. But Luke listen, it doesn’t what I mean. I’m going to help Kylie to confess everything.”

“I hope so. I hope Kylie will forgive you since she is the one who is mad at you. I’m just expressing my anger because I thought your lying. But thank you for you explanation. Everything is clear now.” Luke keep on calming himself.

Nadia his hand when his trying to leave. “Luke. Wait.” Luke turned to Nadia. “Please don’t hate me. I don’t want to lose you.”

“Of course. You can call me always. Actually, I’m just concern. I just want you to explain it with Kylie or I will do it for you?”

“I will talk to her. Thank you.” she pulled Luke through her. She hug him tightly like she don’t want to lose him. And Luke surprised of what she did. He can’t talk and he can’t react. “I just want to hug you, because I miss the day when we still a child having fun each other.”

“Yeah. I remember as well the day when you and Kylie grabbing yourself from the garbage.”

“Yeah, because that time we’ve play hide and seek.” She laughed. “Luke if there’s something to confess would you believe?”

“It depend—why? You want to confess everything?”

“No. Not this time. Maybe on the other day, or next day or what.”

“No problem.” He smiled. “I have to go. I have my work this night.”

Exhausted. Hungry. Nadia’s feelings can’t explain anymore. She bumped herself on her the swivel chair and turn it repeatedly. A relief of her stress is to eat banana but she can’t command someone to get banana because she is alone in her office. When she turn the swivel chair once, something caught her attention, her picture frame with Kylie three years later. This was during on their thanksgiving because Kylie’s graduated as a nurse. “I don’t want to see you anymore.” Someone’s voice out from nowhere. She roam her eyes around the office to see who have fun with her but she see nothing. But it seems like Kylie’s voice. But how Kylie can speak that? She is in the jail, actually. Perhaps, she is just hallucinating.

I’m just hungry. She thought.

She rose from the swivel chair, wear off her doctor’s suit, hang it back on the chair and get her sling color-brown bag. She lock her office before she leave. She directly went to the elevator and get her car on the garage. I need something this day because I’m hungry and I can’t take it anymore. She thought.

She usually came in Gongwoon Restaurant where she meet Carrie last time. But this time, she never feel Carrie who is around but actually she did not search for Carrie, just for the clarification.

She order her favorite foods which are contains sugar. Halo-halo, sweet chocolate cakes, and a dessert. After she bought a cup of coffee for take-out. When she is on her way out to parking lot, she bumped accidentally to a woman who is wearing a summer attire, actually it’s summer month already so not ashamed for her, an eye-shade and wide-brimmed hat a perfect match of her attire, she is beautiful, sexy as well, long legged and perfect height. She’s perfect enough on her beauty but I don’t know inside. A familiar face.

Carrie.

She accidentally poured the coffee on Carrie’s skirt and mad on her face being draw. Nadia frightened of what she did, though it was an accident but she feel sorry on it.

“I’m sorry, Miss—

She wipe the stain on Carrie’s skirt. “Oops. Don’t you dare touch it? Because it worth million.” She said irritated, chinning up. “Make sure, you can’t afford one of it since you don’t have enough money.”

“Are you that arrogant? Ever since in my life, it’s my first time meeting a woman like you or maybe you are worse than me. Your personality doesn’t suit on me at the first place. I’m not an insects just to pinch in. You really don’t know me, and you’re wrong.” Nadia defensed herself from Carrie.

“You don’t know me yet. Or shall I say I’m going to introduce myself to you.” she rolled her eyes.

“I don’t want you to know. I don’t want the conflict—so shut your mouth, I’m leaving.”

Carrie was on her way driving back to the hotel. She keeps on murmuring—

“Mia, I want you to search that woman I have meet earlier. I will never let her until I can’t teach her a lesson after ruining my dress. She’s the responsible of it.”

“Carrie, is that are you mad to her?” Mia asked but she focus on her cellphone, busy on surfing.

“I want you to listen. Focus on what I have commanded to you because I’m going to focus on searching Kurt. We have our different task, so work to it.”

“Okay—

Carrie, changed her dress. She wear her summer suit, and a wide-brimmed hat with sunglasses. She pack her things for surfing into her sling wide-red bag. And a surf board.

“Where are you going?”

“Obviously Mia, did you see what I am wearing and preparing for? Of course, I’m going to the beach doing my sport. And you can’t go with me, since today is your first day doing your task. Don’t show yourself to me, if you can’t find her. Understand.” She rolled her eyes. She get the sling bag and went out to her dorm. She drove to the beach where good for surfing. Fortunately, today was a perfect day for her to do surf because the sun’s shine perfectly, the beach shows perfect angle and its perfect wave. She occupied the nipa hut near the coconut tree, setting up her things and wear her two piece. Some guy are seeing her being sexy, they took some picture of her having a sexy body. She rubbed lotions around her body after she grabbed her surfboard and start surfing. Some are surprise as what Carrie doing, they took some video of her.

Wow, amazing. She thought.

She lay on the sand to take some rest, laying like a model. She’s breathing deeply. She wear her sunglasses, she has her perfect body, need to be treasure. Her secret is that she maintained eating her diet foods and doing exercise more often. Fortunate, for those who can her boyfriend because of her perfect beauty and look. Nothing’s to be regret to her but her personality are the main problem. Perhaps, it will change if someone will make her serious. Or only Kurt she is waiting for. She remember the time where she and Kurt having conflict and made their relationship complicated. “Babe, someone’s recommending me to be in their entertainment. They want me to be their model.” While she drink her coffee. They are inside on their dorm, since it’s raining outside to have some fun or ride. “When and where is that?” Kurt laying on the couch in front of Carrie. They both wearing their thick black-coat because of being cold. Carrie put some wood on the chimney to give them heat. “At London, and it will happen on next week.” She seated beside Kurt, start on caressing Kurt jawlines. “Are you going to leave me, and choose that opportunity over me?” Kurt getting irritated, he stood up and front in the chimney. “No, it doesn’t what I mean. You are free to go with me, then let’s start a new life there and live forever. You know what in London there’s a lot—“. Kurt inserted. “Temptations, right?”

Carrie stood up and give a back hug to Kurt. “No. That is why, you can with me and you are able to watch me.”

“No, I don’t want to leave my job here. You can go if you want. But I will remain in this place.”

“Kurt, are you mad at me?”

“No. I’m not mad at you. If you want, let’s just stop in here. Let’s forget everything about both of us.” Kurt getting upset. He leave Carrie inside the dorm. “Kurt.” Carrie shouted but Kurt never listen to her. Start from that time, Carrie wasn’t able to communicate or contact him. Carrie don’t have a choice but to choose the opportunity that someone’s offer to her.

Someone’s made her frightened. Someone who is sitting beside her. A guy, who’s wearing only a summer suits. She stared it to toe from his face. A perfect body color and shapes, a six packs of abs, a pinkish lips, a blonde hair, a long nose, and a brown eyes. She stared to it too badly. It’s Luke, Nadia’s friend. “Who are you? Why you intended to sit beside me, are you a r****t or what?”

“No, I’m not and kindly don’t call me r****t. By the way, I’m Luke.” He smiled.

“Then…why you are here? Did I know you or did you know me?” she ask sarcastically.

“No, I don’t know you. I just see you from the corner, laying here alone. Where is your friend or colleagues?”

“No, I don’t have them. Yes, I’m alone but I’m free. It’s good to be alone because I can do whatever what I want. Who is with you?”

“I’m alone as well. I’m trying to have some fun while I’m alone. Just like you, I can do what I want—you want some drinks? Coconut juice?”

“Sure. And it’s your treat.” She stood up and fix her suit. She wear her bathtub before they leave. Luke, treat her a coconut juice and coconut pie. “I need to know your name, since you didn’t introduce it to me.”

“I’m Carrie, a great surfer in London.” She smiled and sip her juice.

“Good. Can you teach me how to surf?” they are walking on the breeze, while eating the foods they bought.

“Oh sure, but I can teach if I am not busy.”

“Actually, I am doctor, working in a private hospital for more than a years. Then… I have a rest today, since last day I have lot of works that made me burden. I want to take some rest here in the beach because I like swimming and exposing myself under the sun.”

“We’re the same, actually. But I’m afraid on water though I am a surfer.”

“What? I don’t understand?”

“Not all surfer who are not afraid of water. Though others are good surfer but they are afraid in water. Just like me, I’m afraid in the water because when I was a child was drown on the water and made me fainted. That was the time, I was traumatized. Then second experience, my daddy died because of being drown. They said someone who are dragging him under the water. That’s the last time, I never see him.”

“But, why you still motivated to do surfing?”

“Because of my ex-boyfriend. He is Kurt, he is the one who teach me. If not because of him, I don’t know how to surf.”

“Kurt? A familiar named.”

“Did you know him? Actually, I’m searching for him. He is the reason why I came here in the Philippines because I want to apologize after rejecting him.”

“I didn’t him but only his name. He is the one who prosecute and who put Kylie in the jail.”

“Who is Kylie?” she’s getting curious.

“She is my friend. The name Kurt who accuse Kylie and put her in jail. She was accuse to the crime she didn’t do. Kylie is innocent and a good girl.”

“Luke, promise me you won’t Kurt. Just speak to him in respect. Please just for me. And can I ask some favor?”

“What is that?”

“Can you help find him or if you meet or see him can you contact me. I will give you my number so will able to contact me.”

“Okay, I will do it for you. Can I ask you a favor as well?”

“What is that?”

“Can we have a dinner every night?”

“Oh sure, and let’s make it as a deal.”

“Deal.” Luke held his hand to have some shake-hands. And Carrie grab it.

“Thank you! You want to start it tonight?”

“If you want?”
