A kitten emoji with her number beneath it. “Jessica?” Imagine my f*****g surprise when a male voice, his words as cool and clear as ice water, said, “Not Jessica. This is Officer O’Connor from Briarville PD.” Roxy’s husband? My fist shook as fearful images built in my mind. “Why are you calling from my girlfriend’s phone, Officer?” “She’s okay. Just unable to talk at this moment.”
