Chapter 5
Annie had managed to coax Derrick into much-needed rest, and she cautiously slipped out of the room to get some fresh air, hoping to clear her thoughts in the quiet hallway.
However, before she could fully savor the brief respite, she was suddenly pulled into a shadowed corner of the hallway.
“Ahhh!!!” She shrieked terrifyingly.
The grip on her arm was firm, and Annie's heart raced as she recognized Grey's scent and voice.
She looked up with frightened eyes and was stunned to find herself face-to-face with —Grey.
“You!” Grey's voice was a low, menacing growl.
“L-let me go,” Annie shuttered, avoiding his gaze. She knew he would definitely come for her, she knew he’d blame her for the sudden outcome.
“I won't say much but you must leave, or else, If you don't, I'll make sure you regret it." Grey threatened dangerously and he shoved her away.
“Ahh,” Annie nearly fell but she held her stance.
Grey inched closer to her again in the dimly lit hallway and Annie swallowed emptiness by their close proximity. His hot breath fanned her face, and his fetching dark blue eyes were glistening in fury.
Her heart was beating faster than normal, but she’d be damned if she was to admit that she was still into him. Despite his cruel rejection, she couldn't deny the lingering attraction she felt for Grey.
“I'm... I'm not leaving. I'm sorry but I made a promise, and I intend to keep it,” she told him while she evaded his burning gaze on her.
Inwardly, she knew she couldn't afford to leave the pack, not with her mother's medical bills and the looming debts hanging over her. She had to stay, no matter the consequences.
Grey's anger burned in his eyes as he blamed Annie for the delay in his coronation. "This is all your fault you worthless thing! My coronation was supposed to happen, but you've ruined everything!”
“I didn't mean it to happen,” Annie whined hurtfully as Grey's grip tightened around her arm again, his eyes blazing.
“Please, Grey, let me go,” she pleaded with him and tears were forming in her eyes but he wasn't moved by it.
“So you won't leave, huh?” He chuckled wickedly as he twisted her arm.
“I…. I have my reasons, and… and I… I can't afford to walk away now,” she cried, her arm was aching.
Grey's eyes burned with bitterness, his hatred for her unfolded increasingly as he furiously thrashed against the wall.
"Your reasons be damned, Annie!” He rumbled, and it caused her to shake.
Damn, this man is so scary!
Grey's fury was fueled not only by Annie's presence but also by the realization of how he had been pushed to the side, despite taking care of the pack during Derrick's insanity.
“I don't say third warnings; it's either you leave this pack or I chop off your head!” Grey snarled and then he stormed out of the hallway.
As Annie watched Grey disappear down the hallway, she couldn't help but feel a deep sense of pain and conflict within her. The encounter had left her emotionally torn, and she retreated back to the room where Derrick was awake and waiting for her.
“Shila!” His eyes brightened when he saw her, and he attempted to greet her in his own way.
However, his expression shifted to anger when he noticed the red mark on her arm.
His face distorted into an agitation and his feet flickered at her in four steps.
“Shila, what happened to your arm? Who the f**k did this to you?!” He roared vociferously, and his entire body vibrated with outrage.
Annie nearly jumped, she hesitated, not wanting to divulge the confrontation with Grey. Instead, she resorted to a lie.
“I… I hurt myself, believe me, I fell,” she feigned weakness and stumbled to the ground, clutching her arm as if it pained her more than it actually did.
“Shila!” Derick anger faded and was superseded with concern as he carried her in a bridal style.
Placing her carefully in the bed, he rushed to fetch the first aid box, returning quickly to attend to her swollen arm.
As he gingerly treated her arm, she hissed in pain and his eyes worried. He spoke softly to her, "It's going to be alright, Shila. You don't have to worry. I'm here to take care of you now."
Derrick focused back as he attentively tended to her injured arm, Annie couldn't help but feel a surge of thankfulness toward him.
While her encounter with Grey had left her shaken and hurt, she found solace in the fact that Derrick had shown care and concern even if he was mentally unstable.
At that moment, her mind drifted to Grey. Despite the fact that he had heartlessly rejected her as his mate, she couldn't deny that he possessed an undeniable allure.
Inwardly she compared the two brothers, and while her heart had been wounded by Grey, she couldn't help but admit the fact that he was exceptionally far-fetching than Derick.
After Derrick finished cleaning and dressing her wound, he let out a contented sigh.
Annie couldn't resist the urge to reach out and gently run her fingers through his hair. It was a tender, affectionate gesture that felt entirely natural.
Derrick's eyes softened, and he smiled at her. "You should do that more often. It's quite soothing."
Annie's heart skipped a beat; his smile was incredibly alluring and captivating, she felt a warmth in her chest that she hadn't experienced in a long time. It was at that moment that a startling realization dawned on her. She might be falling for the two brothers, Grey and Derrick.
Oh no!
As the last traces of the ointment disappeared into Annie's wound, Derick gave her a small smile.
"What are you thinking?” His baritone voice broke into Annie’s thoughts.
“Huh?” She was momentarily startled.
Derrick chuckled. “It's okay. You should get some rest now," he said, his voice gentle. "Let's sleep."
Annie hesitated for a moment, but she was so exhausted, and the bed looked so inviting. So, with a small nod, she slipped under the covers.
As she laid her head on the soft pillow, Derick pulled the blankets up to her chin then he pulled her closer and wrapped his arm around her waist.
Derrick closes his eyes and Annie smiles as she caresses his mesmerizing face, his arms around her fill her with warmth and comfort like a shield against the night.
The room was quiet except for the sound of Derrick’s heavy breathing, and it wasn't long before she realized that he already drifted off to sleep.
…….
“I need you, Derrick,” Annie moaned underneath him, she was breathless as he caressed her thighs turning her on.
She never knew she wanted him this much, his touch burning against her cold skin.
Derick smirked cunningly, his lips glazed on her teasingly as he snarled seductively, “You belong to me, Annie…”
“Take… take me, I badly need you,” she pushed herself against him, rubbing her wet cunt on his bulge.
“I can smell your arousal, Annie,” Derick growled in his throat, and when she pecked his lips lustfully all hell let loose.
Derrick smashed his lips on hers, deepening the kiss as his callous hands desperately traveled everywhere on her body while she fondled his hair with her lustrous fingers.
Their moans filled the room, mixed with pleasure groans as they were absorbed by desire. Lust.
“Are you ready for me?” His eyes blackened as he placed himself between her legs.
“I’m always ready for you,” Annie's voice was laced with arousal, her eyes dimmed as she silently begged him to take her.
Derick kissed the nape of her neck sensually, and just when he was about to penetrate into her…
Bam!
Annie jolted out of her slumber. She quickly sat up, disoriented, and squinted.
She her realized she had been wet-dreaming about Derick, and when she glimpsed at her thighs she was soaking wet with arousal.
Annie bit her bottom lips, not knowing how to feel about her newfound emotions.
The birds chirped out the window, pulling her away from her thought, It was morning already.
She glanced beside the bed next to her, and Derrick wasn't in bed.
Where was he?
The knock came again on the door, causing her to let out a low sigh. She sailed out of bed and dragged her feet to the door.
Opening the door, shockingly she saw Grey standing out on the other side.
His face was pale, his hair was unkempt, and dark circles around his eyes as if he hadn't slept for ages.
“Grey?” Annie was stunned, wondering what he was doing there.
Grey’s next few words, sent Annie staggering, her eyes widening with shock.
“I want you back, Annie. I withdraw the rejection.”
