Chapter 16: The Library After dinner, Sarah said she was quite fatigued from the day trip, and the full meal with wine hadn’t helped revive her. She retreated upstairs to the room she shared with Vera, next door to Ms. Lansing’s. Hal mentioned at dinner he’d done a little snooping and found what might be called a library of sorts tucked away at the back of the house—a small room with built-in bookshelves. He told them the books were of an old sort, some leather bound classics, and novels published in the 1940s and ‘50s. On hearing this, the rest of the group went off in that direction to peruse titles, and hopefully, find something to read before bed. Hal, Guy, and Ms. Lansing took their wine into the living room, and sat before the hearth fire. “It’s an unusual home, don’t you think?”
