Thursday Evening
It was after six when Guy and Hal walked into Humphrey’s Bar & Grill. The place wasn’t fancy, just the usual midtown watering hole with a refinished mahogany bar that was well stocked, several small tables, and a few ceiling fans pushing the fall air around. Humphrey’s was their usual place to unwind at the end of a busy week, and this one was no exception.
Guy saw more than his share of patients—Hal less—and a long, midweek case conference, with Ms. Lansing taking notes, and interjecting her own views when asked for, had filled their schedules from Monday through late afternoon Thursday.
