The confession vibrated against my skin, sending a fresh jolt of electricity through me. I pulled back just an inch, my hands framing K.C.’s face. In the dim moonlight filtering through the bedroom window, he looked less like the untouchable Alpha and more like the man who had shown up at my shop in an oversized hoodie. “Wharton?” I repeated, a soft laugh catching in my throat. “K.C., that was years ago. You’re telling me the most formidable man in the Lowcountry has been living like a monk all this time?” He let out a huff that was half-chuckle, half-growl, his forehead dropping to rest against mine. “The monk lifestyle is easy when your head is full of everyone else’s noise.” He shifted, his weight pressing me back into the cool linens. “Besides… no one else really compared to you.”
