Live on Air

The backstage of the Knight Media Center was a chaotic symphony of ringing phones, shouting producers, and flashing studio monitors. Fifty different news networks had their cameras locked onto the main stage. Elena stood in the wings, taking a slow, steadying breath. Through the curtain, she could see the sea of reporters adjusting their microphones. This wasn't a closed boardroom anymore the entire financial world was watching. Alexander stepped up behind her, his hand sliding smoothly around her waist. The heavy, possessive warmth of his palm against her lower back instantly anchored her. He looked down at her, his dark eyes ablaze with a cold, predatory focus. "The network just confirmed," Alexander murmured, his baritone voice a low rumble against her ear. "Richard had just went live on a rival European network. He's accusing us of fabricating our engagement to manipulate the board. He thinks he’s stealing our audience." Elena smirked, her designer brain instantly visualizing the counter-strategy. "He thinks he's dividing the spotlight. He doesn't realize he just gave us the perfect setup." "Exactly," Alexander whispered, a dangerous smile cutting across his sharp features. "Let’s go give them a show." The stage coordinator counted down with his fingers—three, two, one—and pointed at them. Alexander took Elena’s hand, intertwining his long fingers with hers, and led her out onto the stage. The moment they stepped into the lights, a deafening wall of camera flashes erupted. The blinding white light would have made anyone else flinch, but Elena kept her chin high, her posture flawless in her custom tailoring. They took their places behind the sleek obsidian podium. Before the reporters could even shout out their first questions, Alexander leaned into the microphone. "Good morning," Alexander’s voice boomed through the auditorium, instantly commanding absolute silence. "I know many of you are currently tracking the statements being made by my uncle, Richard Knight, across the Atlantic. He is claiming that Knight Enterprises is facing an internal crisis. He is claiming that our union is nothing but a corporate distraction." Alexander paused, his grip tightening on Elena’s hand. He turned his head, looking directly at her with an intensity that sent a violent jolt of electricity through the room. "Richard is half-right," Alexander continued, looking back at the cameras. "Today is a day of massive corporate restructuring. Two hours ago, my legal team officially finalized the termination of Richard Knight from all administrative duties following the discovery of massive financial irregularities in the European sector. His current statements are nothing more than the desperate cries of a man caught stealing from his own family." The room erupted into a frenzy of murmurs. Reporters frantically began typing on their laptops. "But more importantly," Elena cut in, her clear, powerful voice piercing through the noise as she leaned toward the microphone, "we are here to talk about the future. Knight Enterprises is not destabilizing—it is evolving. Today, we are officially launching The Sterling Lifestyle Initiative—a multi-billion dollar joint venture combining the corporate power of Knight Enterprises with the premium, high-fidelity visual assets of Vance Design Studio." She tapped the podium controls, and a massive, brilliant holographic render of her luxury hotel penthouse design projected above the stage, illuminating the entire room in gold and silver light. "This isn't a distraction," Elena said, looking directly into the main lens of the center camera, her eyes blazing with absolute authority. "This is a new empire. And as the future matriarch of this firm, I can assure you... we are just getting started." The reporters jumped out of their seats, shouting questions at the top of their lungs, but the victory was already absolute. On the stock tickers running along the bottom of the studio walls, Knight Enterprises' numbers were climbing rapidly, turning a bright, aggressive green. Alexander turned to Elena under the flashing lights, completely ignoring the screaming crowd. He pulled her flush against his chest, his eyes dark with a sudden, overwhelming heat. "You are magnificent," he whispered, before bending down and pressing his lips fiercely against hers right in front of a hundred live television cameras.
