I lay on the ground, warm blood seeping out from the back of my head. Alexander came sprinting over, his heavy gasps tearing through the air. He dropped to his knees beside me, and a dull thud echoed when his knee collided with the hard ground. His lips kept moving, over and over, like he was shouting my name. But everything sounded muffled. I couldn't make out a single word. Blood flooded into my ears, turning every sound into a garbled, rushing static. "Amelia, don't fall asleep." I tried to answer him. I moved my lips, but not a single sound slipped out. He pressed his face closer to mine, and I realized he was crying. Warm drops splashed against my cheek. I wanted to tell him to stop crying. I'm not even dead yet. What's there to cry for? I couldn't get the words out, though
