Ruby POV:
I'm not sure what happened with the guys while they were in the forest last night, but they returned as new men. They were all so quiet, so distant and tense. I knew I was missing something, but what?
"What's going on?" I asked Xavier as I pulled up at his side, the midday sun causing sweat to break out on my upper lip.
He looked down at me and smiled, but it didn't quite meet his eyes. "What are you talking about?"
"I'm talking about why you're all so quiet and tense," I said loud enough for the others to hear, although I knew they could hear me just fine before. "You've all been acting strange since last night. What did I miss?"
"Nothing, Ruby," Xavier replied. "I think everyone just has a lot on their minds. I certainly do," he added quietly.
