Edmund stepped into the office just as Clement was running like a cat on hot bricks.
Edmund told Clement that he was willing to be the white knight to save his company. (A white knight is A person or an organization that rescues A company from difficulties to the as financial problems or an unwelcome takeover bid.)
So long as Clement was willing to transfer 30 percent of his stake in the White Enterprise to Edmund, he's willing to help White Enterprise through the current situation.
Edmund also promised that he would only temporarily buy Clement's 30 percent stake in the company, and that he would only temporarily replace Clement as the majority owner of White Enterprise.
Edmund was able to provide the money to get the company going again, and during that time the profits of the White Enterprise were Edmund's, and Clement then also had to transfer 10% of the company to Edmund.
Clement always thought that his sister had done a lot of wrong to Edmund, but hadn't found out who Edmund was. But now the White Enterprise was as isolated as a duckweed in the water. Everyone wants to swallow the White Enterprise.
Only the Greens, who had been close friends for years, were willing to help him. Perhaps Edmund had to be trusted.
Clement then decided to take the plunge and signed a share transfer agreement with Edmund, giving Edmund 30 percent of his share in the company to Edmund.
So Edmund managed to get 30 percent of Clement's shares.
In addition to the many years of friendship, Clement's decision to give Edmund his share of the company was also due to the fact that his family's network of contacts and top executives were deeply rooted in all important positions within the White Enterprise. Even if Clement wants to merge with this big business, it won't be easy.
What Clement didn't know was that Edmund had secretly acquired 10% of the overseas shares of White enterprises.
When the price of White Enterprise fell sharply, he successfully lobbied several minority shareholders to transfer a total of 10% of the company's shares to him.
Edmund's real intention was finally revealed. He was not trying to help White Enterprise, overcome the difficulty, or drive out a hostile bidder. He was trying to buy White Enterprise.
As soon as Sir Edmund became involved in the management of Whites, he rid Whites of its old hand.
Clement finally realized that something was wrong. He saw what Edmund was trying to do, but it was too late. Before he knew it, he had lost control of the White Enterprise.
Clement was furious. He hated Edmund's betrayal and his credulity in allowing the White Enterprise to fall into the wrong hands.
Clement was no longer the bouncy young gentleman, and most of his family had already perished. His sister was still missing, his mother was killed in a car accident, and his father was paralyzed in bed by a stroke.
Everything in the family was loaded on him personally but he's never been able to sustain the company.
Now all he had was the concession money he earned when he signed the deal with Edmund.
The good thing was that Edmund had a little mercy and didn't leave him with a lot of debt.
Oh, should he thank him for his kindness?
Clement was sitting in his leather chair in the study with a cup of coffee in one hand and a check in the other.
He looked at the $10 million check in his hand and smiled wryly. That was how much he had earned by selling the White Enterprise.
He had been able to squander ten million dollars in a single night, when he was a young man at his ease.
Now it turned out that dad's life's work was worth ten million dollars.
He dared not dwell on what a foolish thing he had done.
He's afraid he's broken down and he can't do the last thing he can.
He took a sip of the cappuccino in his hand. He used to drink only black coffee, because he thought people who really knew coffee should taste its natural flavor.
It was the first time he had drunk a cappuccino, and he suddenly wanted to taste what this cloying coffee tasted like.
Perhaps, he thought, with the sweetness in his mouth, there would be less bitterness in his heart.
Gulping down his cup of coffee, he thought it was time to go.
He called Mrs. Kenton in, and In today's Whites, Mrs. Kenton was the only person he could trust.
Clement gave the $10 million check to Mrs. Kenton, to care for his father and to keep them live comfortable for the rest of their lives, and after that he decided to go to Edmund to find out how their intergenerational friendship had gotten him into this situation.
He knew that Edmund must be on his guard now, so he disguised himself. Instead of the famous suits he used to wear, he bought the yellow work clothes of the delivery boy and matched him with a cap. Mixed in the crowd, on one thought that this was the original rebellious, arrogant young master.
He looked at himself in the mirror. He was born with a golden spoon in his mouth. He was destined to be extraordinary.
He was now really too humiliating, he was now the way he was most dismissive.
It's all your fault, Edmund, he thought.
If he hadn't cheated his company, he would still be chairman of the White Enterprise.
He was trying to put his cap on the right place, and no one would have thought it would be him, let alone Edmund, who had grown up knowing him.
He sat in the cafe opposite green enterprises and watched the other side until noon, when he knew his chance had come.
He packed two meals and, pretending to be a delivery man, made his way into the green enterprises. Then he came to the 23rd floor, Edmund's office.
Fortunately, he did a good job of scouting and saw Edmund's secretary leave the gate of green's enterprise, otherwise everything would not be so smooth.
As he used to know, Edmund always waited for his secretary to buy his lunch, so he must be waiting in the office now.
Clement planned to confront him in person, but he had to make sure Edmund gave him a straight answer. He didn't believe Edmund wouldn't give him a single truth. As the saying goes, A man with nothing is never afraid of losing while a man with something is not.
He had nothing to lose. So he knocked on the door of Edmund's office.
