Phil, Lilly and Joe arrived at school just in time. Mr Andrews was already standing at the entrance making sure nobody caused any trouble when school started. For someone who was in his forties, he was always the first to arrive on the school grounds and the last to leave. Another thing Mr. Andrews was always keen on the dressing code. He was always strict towards students who would come to school untidy and not 'properly' dressed. 'Proplery' meant warm and comfortable. Mr. Andrews taught chemistry and history and that is why he was so popular amongst the students, not because of chemistry but the latter. His history classes were always in perfect attendance because of the stories he told during class time. Everyone seemed to concentrate during this class. What remained a mystery was where Mr. Andrews lived. Since he was the last person to leave school, no one really knew where he went to after school. Some students even started believing that he was a ghost that lived in the school premises. All Phil and Joe knew was that every day they went to school Mr. Andrews was always waiting at the entrance.
" Good morning Phil, make sure you come and see me when school ends." Mr. Andrews told Phil as he passed through the gates.
The first words you saw when you entered Creek Town High were "NO BULLYING". Which was normally not the case at all. But it was not too rampant either. Phil and Joe have always had each other's backs since they started school. Any kid that tried to bully one, the other would jump in. This meant that Phil's fight became Joe's fight by default. So school life was basically fight free, apart from one or two fights when they were in junior high. Nobody dared to bother them after that fight. The kid who started it ended up with a broken hand and a really bloody nose. Phil and Joe ended up being suspended from school and were given two weeks' community service. The duo also made sure Lilly was always protected, not that she needed it though. This was not the case for other lone wolves. The solo kids were picked on time and again by the school jacks. Bill the bully was the ring leader and nobody who was solo was safe from him and his bullying crew. But Phil, Joe and Lilly were untouchable to Billy.
"I'll catch up with you guys later", Lilly said as she met up with her fellow cheerleaders. They went to prepare for their last closing ceremony. The Creek Town cheerleading squad was fantastic, but that could not be said about the soccer team being cheered. This became a trend every time the football team hosted a match. They were battered on their home ground and the only reason some went to see the games, was to watch the cheerleaders flip and dance. Phil and Joe were not part of any club, despite Julie trying her best to get them to join one of the school clubs. This did not mean that they were unhealthy, it was infract the opposite. Phil and Joe were fit and very energetic. This might be because of the running around they did when in the woods.
"Okay Lilly, go break a leg", Phil answered, feeling very embarrassed by the words that just came out of her mouth.
"Seriously Phil, when are you going to tell Lilly you are in love with her"? Joe started teasing Phil as soon as Lilly was out of sight.
"I'm not in love just yet, I just happen to like her a lot". Phil replied as she started blurbing about what he liked about Lilly.
"I like the way she smiles and her cute laugh. I like the way... Are you even listening to me"?
"I stopped listening when you said you are not in love just yet". Joe answered as he laughed at the way Phil was blurbing about Lilly.
"Where is your girlfriend? Ooh wait, you do not have one". Phil made fun of Joe's lack of a love life. "So I am pretty sure I know more about love than you do, Joe".
"That is because a little bird told me the love of my life was waiting for me when I got to college. So you should man up and confess your feelings to Lilly before it is too late. What's the worst that could happen"? Joe asked Phil.
"First, she might not feel the same way about me. Second, she might be in love already with someone else. Third..."
"Stop it Phil, all that negative thinking will not help. Just tell her the truth and if any of your fears are true, you still have me and I will make sure you forget about Lilly during summer". Joe teased Phil. "Plus, I heard college girls were way more fun".
Phil and Joe's conversation was cut short by the announcement.
"Good morning Creek Town High. Today is the final day of school before the summer holidays begin. This does not mean that you are going to just be idle and wait for the closing ceremony".
You could hear the disappointment along the school highway as Mrs. Fager, the school principal, made the announcement. Mrs. Fager was rarely seen as she spent most of her time in the office. Most of the trouble makers are the ones who truly knew her. She would not hesitate to summon you to her office whenever you caused any trouble. She was so strict and entertained no indiscipline issues which might get you a two-week suspension and community work, as Phil and Joe found the hard way. Somehow, Billy and his goons managed to evade her wrath throughout high school. Maybe because the kids who were being bullied were more scared of Billy than Mrs. Fager. But that did not stop Mrs. Fager from trying to find a way to stop bullying in school.
So I have given you till noon to sort out the issues you have with your class teachers, then at exactly one o'clock we will all convene in the school assembly hall for closing.
