Chapter 5: To Wed Or Not To Wed

ALLYSA I slowly stirred awake, a pleasant ache between my legs as I stretched like a cat, humming in satisfaction as a few bones popped. I sat up and looked around to the room, realizing I was alone. I was tucked under the covers and the other side of the bed was straightened as if no one was there. I got up and checked the rest of the penthouse and yup, Grey Eyed Hottie was nowhere to be found. Honestly, I didn’t even think he stayed the night. Take a girl to levels of orgasm she’s never experienced and not even stay…and cuddle and hug and…I shrugged off my melodrama and headed to the bathroom and showered, staying under the warm stream of water long enough till my skin began to prune. When I emerged, folded sweatpants and a tee were waiting for me, along with some flipflops. I dutifully changed into them and tied my hair up in a messy bun. In the main room, there was a room service breakfast cart and I sat and ate, waiting for him to appear but he didn’t. I acted like it didn’t bother me and finished eating, hesitating before I went to the door and opened it. The guards standing outside straightened. “Good morning, ma’am. Are you ready to leave?” I wanted to ask where their boss was but didn’t want to come off as obsessed or whatever so I just nodded and said, “Yeah.” They nodded and one of them broke away and led me towards the private elevator. We got in and it began to go down. I twitched, fiddling with my fingers and debating whether to just go ahead and ask the question as awkward silence filled the space. The elevator pinged and opened before I could ask and my eyes brightened slightly when I saw the kindly driver from last night waiting. He smiled warmly, “Good morning, ma’am. I hope you’re well rested, especially after yesterdays events.” My cheeks heated until I realized he was talking about the crash and not the s*x, and I nodded and cleared my throat. “Yeah, I am. We’re leaving now, yes?” He nodded. “This way, please.” I followed him till we reached a car, a different one from the one from last night that I’d dented. He opened the backseat and I entered, freezing slightly as he closed it behind me. It was…empty. The driver got into the drivers seat and after asking for directions, which I gave, we hit the road. I twiddled my fingers then asked, “He wouldn’t join us today?” The driver smiled politely. “Mr. Ashworth headed early to work today, hence, he was unable to see you off. But be rest assured that I’ll see you safely home, ma’am.” I nodded, almost too many times. “Uh uh. Yeah, no, sure. That’s fine. Thanks again, by the way.” He only inclined his head and we continued on the rest of the journey in silence. The roads began to get familiar after a while and then we arrived at the estate. I told the driver to leave me at the gate, and after checking I was sure, did so. I turned to him one last time. “Thank you once again. And please…pass on my apologies for last night to…to Mr. Ashworth as well as my thanks.” The driver nodded. “I will surely do so, ma’am.” The gatemen confirmed it was me, and passed on the message, opening the gates for me to go in and it closed behind me, the sense of foreboding settling in me. Rin arrived then in a cart and politely angled his head in greeting, “Miss Rickman.” I opened my mouth to do what, apologise? I closed it and climbed inside and was driven through the winding estate to the front door where I was deposited. With a deep breath, I pushed the door open and walked in. My parents, Sienna, Monty and his parents were gathered in the main living area and they all turned to look at me once I walked in. My fathers face was twisted in fury. “Allysa Rosetta Rickman! What is the meaning of this? Explain yourself immediately.” “My sweet, are you alright? We were worried about you.” Monty said, stepping closer. I acted like he didn’t say anything, purposefully not looking at him or Sienna, my eyes locked on my dads. “Dad…” “Do you realise today is your wedding day? For you to leave abruptly, take a bike and leave and then crash it! And where did you disappear to last night? I have given you many liberties but this is unacceptable. You should be ashamed of yourself for putting Monty and his parents through such a wringer.” I rose my chin and held his eyes as I said, “Well, they’d have to get over it. Because I will not be marrying Monty.” Silence descended in the room and shocked expressions were stamped across all their faces. Dads face twisted and he opened his mouth but Mom gently placed a hand on him, “Arthur.” She turned to me. “Honey, what are you saying? Of course you will. Today is your wedding, remember?” I inhaled sharply. “Oh, I remember. Except I wouldn’t be marrying him. Because you know what else I can’t forget? Seeing my fiancé and bestfriend having s*x in the library just a floor above , yesterday.” I said sharply as I met Monty’s eyes and then Sienna’s. Their eyes darted to one another and Monty gave a tight smile. “My sweet…” “Don’t f*****g call me that, you stupid prick.” I snapped and Monty’s mom gasped. “You two have been going around behind my back for God knows how long. I’ve given everything I could to you, for our families. But I will not be walking down that aisle with you today. So if you want her so much…” I tore off the engagement ring from my finger and threw it at him. It hit his face and bounced off and he jerked back, his eyes wide. “If you want her so much,” I continued. “Then you can marry her. Because I’m done.”
