CHAPTER TWELVE

They were standing in an open field, maybe a soccer field. Kofi was holding an arrow, looking deadly, as usual. Ava looked around, she was still observing where they were. She sighed and walked a little closer to Kofi, but not to close. The silence around them was so deafening. Kofi pointed the arrow at the wooden post, with was a little far from them. The wooden post itself was terrifying, different wooden post with different design were placed in a circular way, surrounding the two of them. Ava sighed. Kofi is really not romantic. What a bastard. Kofi’s arrow struck the target with a hard, final thud. He did not smile. His eyes flicked to Ava, cold and unblinking. Before he reached for another shaft. Each moment was deliberate- drawing, nocking, releasing. The arrow landed closer and closer to each mark. With rhythm sounding like a threatening note. Ava swallowed hard. She stood frozen. The sound of each strike crawling into her chest. It wasn’t just the skill he was showing her. He was passing a message, a message carved into wood of the target with every impact: I could place this everywhere… even at you. Ava stared at him, his deadly eyes was staring at her. It was passing a message. He knew. Then it came. The one that broke her breath. He loosened another arrow, but instead of striking the center, it strike through the air, veering closed enough that the breeze of it brushed Ava’s cheek. The shaft buried itself into a wooden shaft just beside her. Ava flinched, her heart clattering in her ribs . She slowly looked at the shaft. Then at Kofi, whose face was calm, unreadable and almost detached. “ that’ Kofi lowered his bow “ wasn’t a mistake.” Ava slowly walked closer to Kofi until she was only a few inches away from him. She stared into his eyes “ I guess we are even…I tried to kill you. You tried to kill me” Ava said seriously. Kofi chuckled lightly “ I hope you enjoyed the date. I hope we don’t have one like this…” he frowned “ who know what can happen” Kofi said darkly. Ava wanted to melt. Looking at him in the eyes alone could kill. But she formed a little smile “ are we done?” Ava asked still a little bit petrified. Kofi smiled “ only if you have something else to do” Kofi said coldly. Ava turned around. And waited for a while. Before she walked away. Kofi signed, he almost lost control. He could have killed her. And he kinda wished he did. *** This was it. Her ending. She stared at the stars. They reminded her of what she doesn’t have. Light . Her dad once told her that the stars will protect her, and lead her to the right path. Well that’s bullshit. The stars are in the sky but she is still lost. This was the day. The day she will meet Kola Wole. *** Ava stared at the hotel. she felt disgusted as she stared at it. She couldn't do it. But she had no choice. She walked away from the gate. She still has a few hours before Kola Woke arrives. She needs something to cheer her up. Or someone, and she knows the right person . *** " you really mean that" Ava said and chuckled. Femi smiled " I'm serious, I'm from a royal lineage" Femi said boastfully. Ava smiled. This was what she needed. l Laughing and smiling in a restaurant with People . Like as if she is just a normal human being that is not turning to a p********e in a few hours. " so , where is your so called royal family?" Ava asked whimsically. Femi forced a little smile " dead" Femi said with mixed feelings. Ava quickly removed the smile on her face " life goes on, right" Ava said warmly. Femi smiled " thanks. You are actually the first person not to tell me sorry." Ava sighed " sorry can't fix anything, especially the past. I've learnt that in a long time" she said softly. Femi held Ava palms. And stared at Kofi, who was standing at the door, looking at them. Femi smiled, wickedly and watched Kofi leave. He couldn't find out if Kofi was angry or disgusted or none, Kofi was unreadable and that annoyed Femi so much.He frowned, he hated Kofi, and he knew that nothing he does can affect Kofi. Femi needs to get Ava from Kofi at all cost. Kofi was nothing but trouble. Femi stared at Ava and smiled " do you want to go to the cinema across the street. I heard it's Jurassic world rebirth that is going to be played tonight" Femi winked at Ava Ava sighed and stood up " don't be too hasty, I didn't come here to go on a date with you. I only came here to refresh my mind and now I'm done."Ava said rudely, Ava smiled " you are too flirty" Femi chuckled " and you are too intriguing" Femi said softly. With a smirk on his face. Ava laughed then frowned " it's still a no" Ava smiled. Femi stood up and walked closer to Ava. He stared at Ava for a while before he smiled and hug her. He knew she didn't hug him back. she didn't feel what he felt. Ava released herself from the uncomfortable hug. She wasn't a fan of hugges. And she didn't want to give Femi the wrong signal. She smiled at Femi " I better go" Ava didn't wait for Femi reply, she just turned around and walked away. Femi scoffed. He would get Ava away from Kofi no matter what, he had no choice anyway.
