CHAPTER TWENTY THREE. Ava slowly walked to the toilet. Her breath was uneven. That was unexpected and that was terrific. The Obi she knew was no more, all that remain is a monster created by Shade's death, created by her games, created by her. Ava sighed and looked at herself in the mirror. She looked pale and horrible. Just like the way Shade's lifeless body looked like. Ava closed her eyes tightly. She wished she can get the image out of her head. She wished that day never existed. And she wished she never fell into Femi plan. Femi said he was innocent, but Ava saw the dagger. She saw him that night. She knew , better than anyone, that he was guilty. And because of him, a lot will be lost. Ava need to talk to Femi, she needs to read him, find out the already obvious truth, and find out if this will ever end. Or is this just the beginning. Ava walked towards the entrance but stopped abruptly. She could hear the murmuring coming from outside. She walked slowly towards the door and listened. " ...I saw it too... what if she has something to do with this" Ava could tell that was Aliyah's voice and they were talking about her. " U are right. She never liked Shade and she was rumored to be dating Femi " Ava couldn't tell who was talking but she hated what she said. " U are right. What if she used Femi ..." Aliyah sniffed, she was already crying. " What if she used Femi to...to kill Hannah... and Joke" Ava sighed in fear. She was already getting busted. And this time it was worst. Ava stopped listening. But she knew this theory will go far. She had the motive, she knew and was close with the killer and Obi in public shouted at her. Ava knew that a few people saw her confrontation with Obi and that feared her. If the world learns of what happened between her and Obi. She will definitely be a suspect. Ava knew she won't be arrested but her image will be done for. She needs a plan. She needs to meet Kofi. * * * " What are we going to do" Dare asked then faced Kofi. Kofi smacked his lips " No idea" " s**t" Dare said frustrated. Kofi stood up from his VIP golden chair. And walked closer to Dare who was a little bit farther than him " More people will die, so be prepared to say more ' s**t ' " kofi said dryly and flatly. Dare frowned then exhaled loudly " Do you think this is Dark Shadow doing?" Kofi stared at Dare. How would he feel when he finally finds out that Dark Shadow is his father. Kofi knew that Dare hated Dark Shadow. His brother was once working for Dark Shadow, his brother was once alive. Kofi looked away from Dare " I don't know. " " We need to stop this" " No!" Kofi said a little upset " we need to stay alive" Dare looked at Kofi angrily " But more people will die" " In a game like this, not all survive, not..." " But..." " Not interested " Kofi said dryly, cutting in. " That incident wasn't murder, it was a threat." Kofi paused " and the message is for me" Kofi said darkly. " Or Ava." Dare said deadpan. Kofi stared at Dare. He might be right, Ava...Ava...He was sure she knew something. The way she stared at Shade's body hinted that to him. Was the message really for her? Or for him? The message was definitely about that night. That was the way that woman died. The woman whose death still haunted him. The murder was a message, a message to remind him of that dark night. But what if Ava is somewhat connected to this? He needed to her. He needed answers. He needed her. The truth of this story is, no matter how hard he tries to stay away from Ava, he will always be connected to her. And it was that string that connected them. As thin as it was, it was enough to kill. To strangle and to murder. That string was filled with secrets, guilt and pain. And he could see that it was getting out.little. By. little. CHAPTER TWENTY FOUR. Ava sat upright instantly on her bed, she looked at her wrist watch and sighed. Gosh! She thought she was already late. For the past two weeks she hasn't heard from Kofi. Well until yesterday. Ava could remember the conversation very well, because she was curious and a little bit worried of what is to come . " We need to talk" that was the rude tone Kofi started with. What a egotistical and arrogant fool. " Yes...we need to fix this, we need to find out who is doing..." " Meet me tomorrow. In my place" Kofi said rudely and flatly, cutting Ava off, intentionally. Ava frowned, she wished she was talking to him face to face and not through the phone so that he could see her expression that was shouting WE -ARE -f*****g- f****d -UP- SO -STOP- ACTING -LIKE -YOU- ARE- THE -BETTER -ONE. " You are already having haters, so take care. And let's fix it" Kofi said then hanged up. Ava sat down for three hours thinking about if Kofi was actually nice with his ' take care ' or not. Ava sighed. She just recounted yesterday's event . She looked at her wrist watch again, it remained three minutes. Although she was curious, everyone knows that a lady never arrives on time. It was a part of them . Let the guys wait. While the ladies take their time looking gorgeous. Ava stood up. It was time . Ava picked up her hand bag, smacked her lips, and dramatically walked out. * * * Ava stood up, the silence in the room was deafening. Ava looked at kofi who was staring at her " Are you gonna talk or are you going to be useless the whole day?" Ava asked rudely. Kofi walked a few steps closer to her " Who was the message for?" Kofi asked seriously and darkly. " Message?" " Murder" Kofi paused " was the message for me or you?" Ava looked away from Kofi instantly. The guilt was killing her. " So I guess it's you. How is it connected to you" Ava sighed then exhaled loudly. This was taking her back to her dreadful past, past she wants to burn " She died like that" Ava said sadly and slowly. " Who?" Kofi asked intrigued, moving closer to her. " My..." Ava sighed, her eyes were getting wet. She stared at Kofi, who was already standing in her front " my mum " Ava said forcefully. Kofi eyes looked away from Ava. He opened his mouth but the words didn't come out. This was the reason Dark Shadow wanted him to be close to her. The guilt swallowed Kofi. And he couldn't bring himself to tell her. He was there the night her mum died. He could have saved her. And. The worst part. His father killed her mum. And he won't stop. Dark Shadow won't stop. " So you really think it's Femi " Ava asked seriously. " I do. I did a background check on Femi and what I found was..." Kofi kept quiet upsetting Ava " What?" Ava asked frustrated. " Everything about him is a lie" Kofi walked around the room " he didn't school in New York, no record of him. He has a lot of criminal records, piracy, theft, property damage and he was a suspect of two murder case " Kofi stopped walking then stared at Ava " Femi has a dark side. And we just met it" Ava closed her eyes for a brief moment then opened it. Everything was sounding so unreal but she knew it was the truth. " What are we going to do " " You need to fix your reputation, that's what we are going to do" Ava smiled darkly " Those who tries to put me down, will fall and beg in my front. Femi can't ruin me. " Ava faced Kofi " he can't" *** Femi looked around, everywhere looked disgusting. The dirty, the flies, the people. Femi need to get out of here. He has to escape. They got him, and Ava is next. He shouldn't have done it, he should have known. They would find out everything, they will want to know more and they would come across his past. s**t! This isn't gonna end well. He could feel it. That bastard has the upper hand now that he's in jail. He needs to fix everything. He has to, he... " U get visitor " a warder said to him and unlocked his cell. Femi stood up " Who?" " Na mi go know " the warder replied rudely. Femi sighed and walked out of the cell. Could it be Ava? He doesn't want to see her now. He wasn't sure he could face her. Femi was led to the visiting room, he opened the door then frowned. He turned around to go " Just hear me out, I have a message " Femi stopped then slowly turned around, he walked to a chair and sat down. He hated the bars that divided the two of them. He knew that Hassan would annoy him to the point that he would want to hit him, but this bars can't let him. Femi sighed " What do you want?" Femi asked rudely. " Dark Shadow sent me. He wants to help" Hassan said seriously. Femi scoffed and chuckled a little, he faced Hassan " Why should I let him" Femi frowned " why should I let the devil help me?" " We are all devils in this game" " No. I'm a player. And he's the devil. He sucks you dry. Then betrays you. " Hassan sighed " Talking about betrayal. Ava will betray you, it's just a matter of time " Femi stared at Hassan, annoyed "Let's wait and see " Femi said confidently. Deep down, he knew there was a chance it would happen. Ava is selfish, he knew that even before meeting her. And now that she's also a suspect because of him, he knew that she won't think twice to betray him and save herself. Femi hoped she doesn't add to his wounds. Hassan chuckled, loudly then stopped " People like you, who trust before a lot, ends up in the dark tunnel" Hassan stood up " take up the chance while it's still on Work for him and you will be free" " What does he wants with Ava?" Femi asked seriously. Hassan kept quiet for a while " Do not let your love for Ava, destroy you. Ava would never, ever, stand by a criminal side. " He paused " choose the right side" Hassan said and left. Femi squeezed his palms in anger. He wants them dead, he wants all of them dead . He has to get out of here. He has to.
