(Sanis p.o.v)
Sunday | 12:30 am - Backhouse Sip n' Stop
The doors to the cafe had rung with a chime as Sean had opened it. She held the door and I thanked him walking inside, him following behind me. She had adjusted his jacket and looked up at the menu then the long line in front of us.
"I would've rethought this if I knew it wasn't lunchtime rush hour." He laughed. I cracked a small smile at his pun.
The two of us stood in line, the smell of coffee and baked goods filled the air, the cafe was filled with people who were probably on their lunch break, others had computers or journals beside them. Must be college students.
Once me and Sean had reached the front I cleared my throat glancing at the menu above me then back at the barista.
"Can I get a Caesar salad? With a side of water?" I asked before Sean spoke.
"I'll have the buffalo chicken panini also with a side of water?"
The Barista had bobbed his head and placed the order in.
"Thirteen- twenty nine please."
I reached for my wallet but Sean had already placed his card down.
"Paying together" He stated. The Barista nodded and scanned his card through the machine, once he was finished he put his card away and took the receipt.
We stepped out of line, Sean was looking over the receipt.
"Okay, we're number seventy six"
"You didn't have to pay, I could've done it." I resorted but he flashed me a smile.
"No worries, I wanted to treat you anyway." he held the receipt in his hand.
"I'll go find us a seat, yeah?"
He nodded, pulling out his phone. I wandered around the slightly crowded cafe looking for a decent spot to sit. I decided to sit near the front window, where you could see the road and all the cars crossing by, along with the people.
I pushed the chair sitting down then grabbed my own phone. I had numerous texts from the group chat I made with Melody and Brooke. She was telling me how her dad had been acting weird and distant from her lately, and how his face looked busted up a bit from a certain angle.
I mean yeah if I got hurt or stubbed my toe I'd feel pretty upset also, not that I don't have any sympathy for Brooke, but as of right now, i'm not really sure how to take in this information. Especially if I can't do anything about it. I guess she just wants someone to listen to her concerns, which I have no problem doing.
Sean had come back with our food, sitting the trey down and pulling out his chair.
I sat my phone down and reached for my bowl of caesar salad, he reached for his food also and slowly started to eat. He took a huge bite out
of the pannini, then grabbed a napkin wiping his mouth.
I opened the container of salad, topping it with dressing and a couple other things before taking a forkful to my mouth.
"So, how are you liking the job so far?"
"I mean...the atmosphere is nice, I'm not so sure about the people per say..."
Sean laughed a bit taking another bite of
his sandwich, he nodded his head in response.
"I suppose that's a start, not that I expected you to like it completely, you haven't even been there twenty four hours yet."
I grabbed the plastic cup of lemonade, opened it and took a sip. With that I scrunched up my face pulling my lips together. This was far too sour.
I put the lid back over the lemonade and pushed it far away from me.
"Disgusting."
Sean had grabbed the lemonade and looked on the back of it.
"I recommend making your own lemonade, buying lemonade from a*****e it just doesn't taste the same you know?" He smiled. I shrugged my head and couldn't help but to agree, any store bought lemonade is weird and just tastes awful, But again that's just my opinion.
Sunday | 3:30 pm - Ellavill Memorial Park
As the evening started to fall around. The sun hiding behind the building and the air becoming cooler, me and sean had finished our shift and decided to stroll around the city holding cups of ice cream in our hands and laughing at each other's embarrassing stories. Sean told me once he was skateboarding and tried it to impress his mother on mother's day but ended up making a full himself and broke his arm.
I took another scoop of vanilla ice cream that was topped in fudge and whipped cream, putting the spoon full of sweet crisp and delight into my mouth.
"When you said you broke your arm, that had me."
"Yeah, I was quite the wild one, hah!"
There was a hint of silence for a bit, I wasn't sure on what to talk about next, though Sean had broken the silence.
"Anything you like to do in particular?"
I had looked around the area and eaten another spoonful of ice cream then looked back over at Sean. "I mean, I work alot. I guess I'd consider myself an overachiever" I shrugged, kicking a couple of rocks that were in the way.
"Ah, working yourself half to death? then not understanding the concept of letting loose and having fun?"
"Pretty much, you know that kinda person that chooses homework over a birthday party"
"Hm, mann that's boring"
"I know I know! but work is like comfort to me, it keeps my brain thinking and just busy so I don't have to think about anything else, why am I even telling you this"
"Not sure, but I'm pretty invested." Sean stated lastly, he then threw his ice cream cup away and continued to walk beside me.
"Work for me is boring, I was good at it, but was never usually fond of it. You know?"
I nodded my head and threw my own cup away, adjusting the bag on my shoulder.
The two of us had parted ways once we reached the parking area, Sean stated he takes the bus home so I waved goodbye to him once he reached it.
I pulled out my phone and called Brooke since I had already had two missed calls from her.
The other had rang for what seemed like a few minutes before she actually answered.
"Hello Brooke?"
There was more shuffling before she spoke.
"Hey Sani"
"Everything okay? you seem worried..."
"what? oh, yeah yeah! I'm all good! i'm just worried about my dad still, he's a bit better now, the investor contacted him about a deal. He gave him a couple extra bucks to help fix the broken car's faster and give some of the employees a raise."
I chuckled, smiling at the other end of the phone.
"That's good news, the business is growing!"
"Yeah, but it was a lot of money, like enough to buy another property, at least in this area." She stated a hit of anxiousness in her voice.
"I'm sure it's nothing to really worry about, that's his job, to help you know?"
"Yeah yeah I see"
"Something doesn't feel right. Just something doesn't. I don't wanna overlook anything but I have this thought in the back of my head, you know the way the investor was acting the night of the barbecue, then the my dad and a couple others had gotten into that altercation, none of it adds up"
I thought for a moment before speaking.
"Maybe ask him about it?"
"Definitely not." I don't want him to—oh s**t I gotta go"
I had blinked.
"Alright, I'll talk to you later!"
Brooke then hung up the phone.
I started growing worried myself.
