CHAPTER SEVEN - OCTOBER, 1991 When I was in my mid‑thirties, I had undergone a double hernia repair and had recently experienced some pain in my right groin when lifting heavy objects or when standing for any length of time. As a consequence, I had seen a consultant and he felt it wise to operate again to relieve the pain. An advantage of using private health care is the ability to schedule the operation to suit my circumstances and booked into the Alexandra private hospital for the first week in October.
