            It had been days down in the hold, in the dark with the rats. The ship rocked violently with the harsh winter waters. It was enough to make someone sick. They had heard the footsteps and voices of the men above but had seen no one since they had been locked away. There had been no food, no water, no care of any kind like there had been when she had been a prisoner on Dax’s ship those many months ago. She could not believe her so-called civilized English countrymen could be so callous and thoughtless.
