Together she and Anya walked through the house. To Lauren, the house felt only vaguely familiar, like a childhood home in a yellowed photograph. Although the late afternoon sun filled the house as they climbed the stairs to the upper level, Lauren pulled her jacket closer to stop the shivering. When they reached the bedroom, Anya stopped and held Lauren in place. “Let"s not go in there, Lauren. Please stay somewhere else. Please.” Lauren held her ground. “I can"t. Everything I need is in there. And I have to face this.” With an air of resolve, Lauren stepped into the bedroom. It was immaculate.
