Sam was sitting on Maire"s front porch step when he spotted Renee Oleyant rushing down Ursulines in his direction. He got to his feet as she approached.
“Renee, I thought you went home!”
“Why would I do that?” she asked breathlessly. “I haven"t found my daughter, Mr. Lerner.”
“I know. And I"m truly sorry. I"m still investigating the matter. Are you okay?”
“Well I came looking for you because I have something urgent to tell you. I saw a man force one of Madsen"s friends into his car out at my hotel. I"ve been trying to track you down ever since.”
“What friend? Tell me what happened.”
“You know the girl you were talking to that day we met–the brunette with hair down to her knees?”
“Ramona?”
“Yes, I believe that"s her name. Last night he dragged her out of the hotel where I"m staying.
