*Da Basement* "Okay, now ignite the flame." Sam instructed. "And release the gas knob slowly." Jay did as Sam said, then looked up at her, awaiting the next instruction. "Niw hit it twice on the side right there." Sam said, pointing to a certain spot on the water heater. Jay looked from Sam to the water heater and then back to Sam. "Hit it?" "Seriously." Jay did as Sam told him and hit the water heater twice. "Okay. Now turn the gas knob on, and you'll hear a 'Whoomph'." Jay turned the gas knob on, but nothing happened. "Nothing." Jay shrugged. "Actually, a little past 'On', the calibrations off. It's been wonky for the last forty years or so." Jay adjusted the gas knob and jumped back in shock as the water heater let out a loud 'Whoomph'. "Woah!" He exclaimed. "See? How else would I know any of this?" "Okay, well, Uh. I guess I believe you." He said to Sam before turning to the room and adressing the ghosts. "And...Thank you!" "They say 'Your Welcome.'" "They? There's two of them?" "Yep." Sam said, despite the huge group surrounding her. "Are we done here?" She asked in discomfort. *********************** *That Night* *Sam and Jay's room* Jay walked in with a look of triumph, catching Sam's attention, who was sitting in the bed typing on her laptop. "All taken care of?" She asked. "Yup. Covered the hole right up." *****Flashback****** Jay had taken down the picture of Elias like Hetty wished for but used it in a way that did not please her. He put it over the hole in her room. "This is not the solution! This is WORSE!" Hetty cried. "I demand you remedy this post haste!" Once Jay had positioned the painting to be straight and covering the hole, he turned to the 'empty' room. "If you're here, you're welcome." *****End****** "Are you starting a new article?" Jay asked, now noticing the laptop. "Toying around with a book idea, actually." Sam replied. "Cool." "Mm- Mm. More writey - writey! Less Talkie- Talkie!" Isacc commanded. "Now, where was I?" "You were telling me about your wife." "Huh?" Jay asked. "Oh no, not you! It's - It's a ghost thing." Sam said. "Alright, well, Uh, have fun." Jay bid, backing out of the room. "Ah yes, Beatrice. She was a handsome woman. We slept in separate bedrooms to keep the flame of our passion burning bright." Isacc informed Sam as she furiously typed. "Now, let's talk military service! I was a beloved commander. Though I was known for riding my men hard." He spoke, although he could've phrased it better to make it sound less dirty. *********************** *Meanwhile, in Cassie's room.* "You can just get changed here since my Dad's in the bathroom. Me and my mates got changed in front of each other, obviously covered all the time." Cassie told Damien as she entered the room wearing a light blue jumper with matching pants and fuzzy socks. "They were both women, though. Weren't they?" Damien counterpointed. "Nope. Boys." "Boys? Why? Didn't get on with girls at your school?" Damien joked. "Well, when your dad's a chef in the city and your Mom's a journalist, you become somewhat popular. But when you take out those who only like you so they can get a free dinner at a pristine restaurant, those who only want a story published or taken out, those who want to boost their social status, those who only pretend to like you for their friends sake, the jocks who want to sleep with you and get a higher body count, the cheerleaders who hate everyone in school, any sort of ghost or poltergeist, you only have two true friends left. Even then, one is bound to leave in a way that you thought unimaginable. That leaves you and the other person but both of you are still grieving so you give each other space and say its to help the other have time to grieve but really it's because you remind each other of that third person and it hurts bad cos you know that the glue of the trio is gone. Even tho you and the other person are close, you both want that third person back." Cassie exhaled. "When they leave, you two are left but you can't even look at each other cos you'll start crying so when you're given space and start to realise that you need the other, it's too late cos they're already on the other side of America." Cassie finished. "I'm so sorry, Cass." "It's fine. Now get changed, I ain't gonna judge." Damien still doesn't change and stands there, staring at Cassie in sympathy, making Cassie wish she could've stopped herself from saying all that. "You know what?" She asked, breaking the silence. "I'm gonna leave you be and make a late night snack for us. Ok? Bye." Cassie opened the door and walked out of the room, closing the door on her way out. She hardly got five steps when she bumped into somebody. She looked up to see that it was Trevor. He stared at the girl in shock whilst she backed up a little so they could see each other clearly. "You told me you had countless friends." He spoke softly. "Well, I clearly lied." She sassed. "Most people in that school didn't even know my name till graduation." She admitted, looking down at her socks. "Cass- " "Nope!" She interrupted."I don't want any sympathy. I'm just glad I graduated early and got the hell outta there. I'm starting online college in September, so at least I won't have that issue anymore. I'm fine. Trust me, Trev." "Fine." He agreed begrudgingly. Cassie walled around him with a satisfied nod before quickly stopping again. "Don't tell anyone. Please?" She begged. "I won't." He agreed. ******************* A little while later, Cassie came back upset with a tray in hand, a plate of cookies placed neatly in the centre. Cassie walked into her room but saw that Damien had no top on. She started blushing like crazy while apologising and closing her eyes. "Oh my God! I'm soooo sorry!!" Damien only chuckled at her antics while he pulled his shirt on and over his head. "It's fine, Cass. You can look now." Cassie opened her eyes whilst still blushing hard. "You're cute when you blush. It brings out your eyes." Damien noted, causing Cassie to turn red. "I Uh--- I brought cookies!" She said proudly, showing the tray. "Ooh! My fav!" Damien said as he jumped onto the bed when Cassie had placed the cookies down. "Hey, what's your favourite cookie?" Damien asked the girl. "Shortbread. Why?" "No reason." The two bit into their cookies and talked late into the night about random things, munching on cookies as the minutes turned into hours. Soon, both teens fell asleep on Cassie's bed, tightly huddled together over the sheets. So much for not falling in love. Someone thought as they saw the pair laid there. No way was he going to let them live this down.
