The Mate Sacrifice( part 2)

“Aaaaarrrgghhhh” With a shout of anger, Chris swiped his arms over the table, throwing everything on the floor

“Chris” Carrie said, trying to calm him

“This is f*****g unacceptable” Chris shouted louder

His eyes shone and electric blue light shot out of his body, hitting against the walls and lights, breaking the light bulbs as shards of glass and sparks fell around them. The lightning bolts hit various objects around the room as it destroyed and raised damage around them before fusing out the lights. Finally, just as darkness descended; Chris collapsed onto the floor, his chest heaving; his eyes bloodshot; blood trickling from various open cuts from his hands and arms. Carrie ran to her brother as she put her arm around him and started to chant to help his body recover from the excessive use of power. As the blood slowly returned to his body and his open wounds closed; Carrie grabbed her brothers face, tears in her eyes

“Never do that again! Never! You know what the prophecy says about the twins! How we are connected! You could have died if I hadn’t...if I…” Carrie cut off

“You worry for yourself” Chris spat, his chest still heaving

“I worry for us!” Carrie cried out “After all this time, do you think I wish to lose you”

“The book, the key...they know. The fact that the key to her is no longer a physical object...do you understand what this means? Our trump card has been obliterated and as dust, settled into Kyle’s blood. There is no physical key to get to her!” Chris said in anger

“We will find another way” Carrie encouraged as she helped her brother to stand up again before throwing a blue and white energy ball up into the air. The room was bright once again and the damage her brother caused could be seen as they looked around the room. Carrie pushed her brother into a chair where he flopped down onto it, his face falling forward, his breathing still uneven

“Hey, hey” Carrie said, grabbing his face once more “We WILL find another way”

Chris regarded his sister quietly before speaking “What are you going to do?”

“It’s time for the king to come home” Carrie whispered before looking up at her brother “it’s time i took matters into my own hands. I’m going to attack”

“How? You don’t know where she is” Chris said quietly

“I know she is currently not in resident, but as soon as she is; I will lure her out” Carrie said, standing up “And then, I will kill her”

“I can’t believe you thought that we were siblings and yet you still...uh!” Gemma said with disgust

“I can’t help how I feel about you” Max said as he pulled her back into his arms, his erection nudging against her ass

“But the fact that you didn’t care…” Gemma cut off, pulling a face

“I did...just not enough to give you up” Max grumbled “Never will I be ok to give you up”

“Max!” Gemma said, her face pale once again and her eyes wide “That’s so wrong and-”

“The point, Gemstone; is that we are NOT siblings, so it’s a moot point” Max said

“But it’s still….ugh, i feel sick” Gemma said with another face

“Moot point” Max said again as he rubbed his erection against her, holding her close

“But Max-” Gemma started

“Or should that be moo point?” Max said as he referenced their favourite friends sitcom show.

Sure enough, Gemma smiled as she turned around in his arms and pulled a face “You’re still disgusting” She joked before sticking out her tongue

“Only for you Gemstone!” Max said as he kissed her deep

His mobile phone rang and they both groaned at the disturbance before breaking apart. When Max pulled out his phone, he put it on speaker as he spoke to Ben about the classes he missed and was needed in for the eczema tomorrow

“What exam?” Max asked with a frown

“The position and Griffin call ones” Ben explained

“That’s tomorrow? I thought it was the 19th?” Max said

“Mate, it’s the 19th tomorrow. You’ve either been shacked up doing too much of …..too much” Ben said with a suffering sigh “Or you disappear with Gems and we don’t know where you guys go”

“s**t!” Max says “Ok it’s only 5pm. Let me grab a snack and I’ll make my way over to you and we can study”

“Tell Maddie to come here” Gemma said “This way, you guys can just keep studying and she and I can watch tv”

“She’s in the shower just now. I’ll let her know once she’s out” Ben confirmed

“Yea ok mr doing-too-much-of-too-much” Max said, copying his words

Ben cleared his throat and said he would see Max in a few minutes before he hung up the phone. Gemma laughed and teased Max as he got ready; laughing at his expression when he thought about his best friend and sister. Just as Max left; taking his books with him; Gemma received a text from Maddie, telling her to meet her at the training grounds in the forest as she wanted to show her something. Gemma grabbed her mobile and left the dorm, walking through the academy; smiling and calling out to people she saw.

It was still light outside and plenty of student’s were still loitered about as some practised combat while others were studying out on the grassy banks and others simply talking and enjoying the sunshine. As Gemma walked further down, she texted Maddie to find out which training ground she was at when suddenly, she felt like she hit against an invincible door. Looking up, Gemma’s eyes widened as a chilling growl left her lips. She had somehow walked through a portal and was no longer on the academy grounds.

“Max! Max!” Maddie shouted as she bust the dorm room door open

Max and Ben startled as Maddie skidded to a stop in her and Ben’s dorm room. Waving her mobile phone angrily in the air, she growled at the two boys before her

“What the f**k is the use of mobile phones if you don’t f*****g answer them?!” Maddie shouted

“What the hell madz?” Max said as he and Ben stood up

“I can’t find Gemma!” Maddie said, cutting in

“WHAT?” Max asked, his muscles bunched in tension “What do you mean you can’t find her?”

“I went to your dorm, Pontus said she wasn’t in as he himself had not long arrived and was looking for her. His weird , slimy cousin was there. I tried to mind-link her and I can’t get anything”

“Why the f**k didn’t you mind-link us?” Max shouted as he and Ben started to run out of the dorm

“I tried! I really tried but neither one of you answered! It felt like there was a jam in the signal! Something wrong” Maddie said as she hurried along with them

“No s**t sherlock!” Max gripped in anger

“Someone using some seriously powerful s**t!” Ben said as they each tried to get a sense of Gemma

“Not necessarily. Remember what the professors said?” Max said as he tried to be rational “If the person didn’t have bad intent, then the room doesn’t bar them. It’s possible the person who did this either didn’t mean her harm and only followed orders or pretended to not harm her and their lie was good enough to fool the charms” Max said

“f**k! That’s a dangerous cop out” Ben said “May-”

“Found her!” Max said

“Wait!” Ben exclaimed “take us with-”

Within seconds Max disappeared in front of their eyes as Maddie gasped and Ben shouted out in anger

One minutes Max felt their bond and the next, as his heart galloped in his chest and he wished to be where his mate was to protect her; Max disappeared. His lavender eyes hurled him through an invincible tunnel to a replica of the forest at the academy but straight away he could tell they weren’t there. As his feet stumbled and he came to a stop, he saw Gemma hurling through the air before crumpling to the ground. As Gemma groaned, her head bent down; her right hand lifted as she encased a clear white forcefield around her.

“Gemma!” Max shouted as he ran to her

On the way, he shifted into a half form, his face still Max, but his eyes were all Maxsius, his nails elongated to sharp claws, his body expanded and his shirt tore. Although his legs and thigh expanded, they didn’t turn wolf nor tore off his trousers. Within seconds, he reached Gemma just as the force field came down around them. Fireballs and sparks hit against the field from various angles but Max couldn’t see who was attacking them. He down and lifted Gemma’s face towards him

“Max” Gemma said breathlessly

“Gemstone, what the f**k happened?” Max asked in shock

“I...I don’t know. Maddie...but then I was here” Gemma said breathlessly as blood trickled out from the side of her mouth.

Max looked at Gemma and at all the bruises and cuts; at where she bled from and where she winced at when he touched her. His eye took in her injuries as he looked around the fake forest and saw the attack keep happening but no physical bodies.

“I...can’t hold up the field much longer” Gemma said in a whisper

“It’s ok, rest Gemstone” Max said as he stood up, lifting her in his arms

“Max, you can’t die!” Gemma cried out as tears slid down her face

“WE live and die together Gemstone. It’s always been just you and me and if if there a way to save you by sacrificing myself; then I would do it” Max said in a serious voice as the force field shook with the tremors of the attack

“No Max!” Gemma cried out

The wolf within her howls in pain from the loss of what was to come and her eyes suddenly change to yellow as Aurrora comes forward. Her bright look digging deep within Max as she questions her mate

“Would you sacrifice your life if there was a way to save us? Right now?” Aurora asked

“NO!” Gemma shouted out as she tried to fight her Fae side

“Within a heartbeat” Max answered without pause

Gemma’s wolf let out a soul shattering howl and Gemma screamed out his name, begging him not to do it. Aurora smiled sadly as she spoke in a whisper

“We are about to find out how true your words are” Saying that, she closed her eyes and collapsed in his arms

Just as she did that, the force field flickered around them before crumbling down. Max shouted out in pain as a fireball hit against his left arm, scorching his skin. As if someone realised they could now inflict pain, fire and electric bolts flew at him from different directions. While some missed him as he used his own powers of protection and spells back to counter attack; many hit against his body, causing him great pain. Without letting his burden go, Max protected Gemma with his body as he curled his hulking frame against her, around he; trying to take the brunt of the attack. Maxsius howled in pain and anger as Max’s knee took a large hit with fire, causing him to stumble before he gently lowered to the ground, his body badly burned and bleeding in places. Once on the ground, his lavender eyes looked at Gemma with love

“I’m sorry I couldn’t protect you Gemmstone. I’m sorry I wasn’t a worthy mate. My only consolation is knowing that you will go on” He winced as another fireball hit his side, causing it to burn and bleed “I really wish you are pregnant Gemstone, I shouldn’t have thought there would have been a better time time for it but I hope, somehow you are. I love you my Gemmstone”

Saying that, he closed his eyes and heaved a breath as pain racked his body. He screamed for the last time before curling against Gemma, his body protecting her even as he collapsed. His last breath, his last thought of her, her protection and he willingly released his breath on a sigh of acceptance, begging the higher power that be to take from him what they must to protect his mate. His Gemstone.

As his heart stuttered for the last time, both Max and his heart called out Gemma’s name; a single roll of tear escaping his closed eyes; a picture of her smiling, alighted face the last image before he slipped away
