Annabel opened her eyes, trying her best not to wrinkle her nose at the purple mist flowing around her face. It didn’t smell sweet anymore, but it was tickling her nose, so it was hard to stay still. Keeping her eyes half-closed, she checked her surroundings. They were in a motel room with peeling walls and furniture that seemed older than her; the air smelled stale and moldy and the bed she was lying on was even more uncomfortable than the one back in the base. She noticed another bed next to hers, where Jordan lay motionless, face and body relaxed while another cloud of purple mist floated over his pillow.
