William stood in the corridor with his back against the wall and stared at the floor. When Annabel didn’t return from the restroom and Iris disappeared soon after, he decided to turn in. The others were already drunk or lost in their conversations, so they barely noticed when he slipped out. Annabel and Iris’ rooms were empty. He was pretty sure they wouldn’t leave the base in the middle of the night, so the only other place they could go was the roof. He was just about to open the door leading outside when he heard their voices and froze. He hadn’t planned on eavesdropping, but the more he listened, the harder it was to move.
