Elena stood in the doorway of Adam’s bedroom, her heart hammering in her chest as she placed a folded note on his nightstand. She hesitated for a moment, her fingers lingering on the paper, before taking a shaky breath and slipping out of the room.
Tom had left for the city earlier that morning, his business calling him back for a couple of days.
