As Elena and Grace reentered the living room, it was alive with anticipation. Friends and family gathered around the Christmas tree, their voices mingling in excitement as they prepared to welcome Christmas Day. Steve stood near the mantel, holding a glass of champagne, grinning like the perfect host. Maria stood next to him, with a huge smile plastered on her face too.
"There you are!" Alex exclaimed from a corner, excitedness evident in his tone as he spotted Elena. He hurried over, taking Elena’s hands. "Are you all right, sweetheart? You look pale."
