The wind in the park grew stronger.
Leaves moved across the ground like something invisible was running through them.
Alexander looked around, trying to see who Elena was talking about.
“I don’t see anyone.”
Elena was still holding his hand.
Her fingers were cold, but her grip was tight.
“You don’t see them… but they can see us.”
He frowned.
“Who are they?”
She looked at him with serious eyes.
“The ones who watch me.”
“Watch you? Why?”
She hesitated.
For the first time since he met her… she looked scared.
Not pretending.
Not joking.
Real fear.
“I told you… I was born different.”
“Different doesn’t mean hunted.”
“For me it does.”
The wind stopped suddenly.
Everything became quiet again.
Too quiet.
Elena slowly let go of his hand.
“We need to leave.”
“Where?”
“Anywhere but here.”
He grabbed her arm gently.
“Come with me.”
She looked surprised.
“Where?”
“My place.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“You have a place?”
He smiled slightly.
“A very small one.”
She stared at him for a moment, like she was trying to decide if she could trust him.
“You’re not scared to take a witch home?”
He stepped closer.
“I’m more scared to leave you here alone.”
Her eyes softened.
For a second, the strong, mysterious Elena looked like a normal girl.
Tired.
Lonely.
She nodded slowly.
“Okay.”
His Small Room
They walked back to the hotel staff building in silence.
Alexander opened the door to his small room.
It was simple.
Small bed.
Old table.
One chair.
Dim light.
Nothing like the life he used to have.
Elena walked inside and looked around.
“So this is where the rich man lives.”
He laughed.
“Right now… yes.”
She touched the table with her fingers.
“You’re really doing this… pretending to be poor.”
He closed the door.
“I needed to know if love can exist without money.”
She turned to him.
“And?”
“I don’t know yet.”
Their eyes met.
The room suddenly felt too small.
Too warm.
Too quiet.
She spoke softly.
“You shouldn’t trust me.”
“Too late.”
“You don’t know what I am.”
“I know enough.”
She looked at him for a long moment.
Then she sat on the edge of the bed.
“You live like this every day?”
“For now.”
She lay back slowly, staring at the ceiling.
“You could have any life you want… but you chose this.”
He sat next to her.
“And you could live anywhere… but you chose a cheap hotel.”
She smiled a little.
“Maybe we are both running from something.”
Silence filled the room again.
Alexander could hear her breathing.
Slow.
Soft.
Close.
Closer than any woman had been to him in a long time without wanting his money.
He spoke quietly.
“You said someone is watching you.”
She nodded.
“They always do.”
“Why?”
“Because they don’t want me to belong to anyone.”
He frowned.
“What does that mean?”
She turned her head and looked at him.
“My kind… we don’t live normal lives.”
“Your kind… witches?”
She smiled slightly.
“If you want to call it that.”
“And they don’t allow love?”
She looked at the ceiling again.
“Love makes us weak.”
He laughed softly.
“Then I must be very weak.”
She looked at him again.
“No… you’re dangerous.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re not afraid of me.”
He moved closer.
“I told you… I like dangerous things.”
Their faces were close now.
Very close.
He could feel her breath on his skin.
Her eyes slowly moved to his lips.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
The tension between them felt stronger than anything before.
She whispered,
“If you kiss me… nothing will stay the same.”
He answered quietly,
“Nothing was the same since I met you.”
She closed her eyes.
He moved closer.
Their lips touched softly.
Just for a second.
But the moment they kissed, the light in the room flickered.
The air felt warm again.
Stronger than before.
Elena pulled back suddenly.
Breathing fast.
“You feel that…?”
He nodded slowly.
“Every time I touch you.”
She looked at her hands like she was afraid of them.
“This is bad…”
“What is?”
“I can’t control it when I’m close to you.”
He smiled slightly.
“Maybe I don’t want you to control it.”
She looked at him like she didn’t know whether to laugh or run.
“You really don’t understand what you’re doing.”
He lay back beside her on the bed.
“Then explain it to me tomorrow.”
She looked surprised.
“Tomorrow?”
“You’re not going back tonight.”
“I can’t stay here.”
“Why?”
“You’re a man. I’m a woman. Small room. One bed.”
He smirked.
“You’re the one with magic. I should be the one scared.”
She laughed softly for the first time without tension.
“You’re impossible.”
He closed his eyes.
“Stay.”
She looked at him for a long moment.
Then slowly… she lay down beside him.
Not touching.
But very close.
The room was quiet.
Only their breathing.
After a few minutes, she spoke in a whisper.
“No one has slept next to me in years.”
He answered without opening his eyes.
“No one ever stayed with me without wanting money.”
Silence again.
She moved a little closer without thinking.
Her head touched his shoulder.
He didn’t move.
She whispered,
“Alexander…”
“Yes…”
“If they find out I’m with you… they won’t let it happen.”
He opened his eyes.
“Who?”
She closed her eyes slowly.
“The ones who control my world.”
He looked at her sleeping face.
For the first time in years…
He didn’t feel like a billionaire.
He didn’t feel like a man pretending.
He just felt like a man lying next to the woman he wanted.
He whispered quietly,
“Let them come.”
Outside, the wind started blowing again.
And far away… someone was watching the window.
