Anna gave a deep sigh as she checked her wristwatch, it had been more than an hour now and he hadn't shown up, she was set to meet Richard Vance, the CEO of Novitech Research Institute in a restaurant that Mrs. Vance had scheduled for their meeting.
Anna had decided to consider the deal Mrs. Vance offered her and her meeting with Richard Vance has been scheduled for 2 pm, but he hasn't shown up.
Anna roamed her eyes around the restaurant hoping to see a figure resembling him, "Why isn't he here by now? Or isn't he aware he had an appointment with me?", Anna asked herself feeling frustrated and losing her temper.
As the minutes ticked by, her frustration grew, she checked her wristwatch again, it was almost two hours now and he was nowhere to be seen, She felt restless and anxious.
She was already indulged in the rhythm and melody of the music on her phone when she noticed a figure standing in front of her.
She looked up to see a tall slender man in a black Armani suit, His eyes were dark, cold, and void of any emotion, his eyebrows were thick and well groomed, he had a dark aura around him and his tall stature, combined with his dark eyes was intimidating, the fragrance emanating from his body filled the atmosphere, and his shining diamond Rolex watch made Anna's eyes dim.
"You must be Anna", the man said sharply, gazing at Anna.
"Yes", she replied, unplugging her earphones and straightening her seat
"And if I'm right, you must be Mr. Richard Vance", she asked, expecting some response.
Richard gave no response as he pulled the chair across Anna and sat down comfortably crossing his legs, with his eyes hooked with that of Annas'.
"Let's spare the introduction and cut to the chase", Mr. Richard responded, authority lacing his tone.
Anna squealed sharply and furiously as she held herself back.
“Why did you accept this marriage contract? Is it for money? Richard asked, his voice dripping in disdain.
"What!?, I-I'm sorry. What should that mean?", she asked, her face wide open in surprise.
"Drop the act, Anna, you don't need to pretend, I'm sure my mother would have offered you a great deal of fortune you couldn't resist in return if you agree to this so-called marriage", Mr. Richard said mockingly.
Anna gulped at his statement to her as she belittled her so much and glared at her as if she was nobody.
She smiled sarcastically, trying to curb her rage, "I beg your pardon Mr. Richards or what did you call yourself, what do you mean by such a ridiculous statement? Mind you, your mother didn't offer me a dime, not to talk of a great fortune" she said angrily.
"Did you take me for a fool? I know the likes of you who wouldn’t miss such an opportunity for great fortune", Richard responded with a haughty smile.
Anna's face turned red, her fists clenched, she was breathing heavily and felt like she could explode any moment.
"Excuse me! Did you purposely come here to hurl abusive words at me and embarrass me? what did you think of me? a gold digger who just wants to marry an arrogant rich man just because of his fortune?" She said, anger lacing her tone.
"Not everything in this world has a price tag that you can buy with your precious fortune, yes I do have a reason for agreeing to the deal, but it's far from the money you're so proud of, your mother only asked me to act as your wife for a year to help you secure an investment", she added gritting her teeth in irritation.
"Oh! now I see" Mr. Richard said, maintaining his cold air.
"You're just the opposite of your appearance! Your character stinks, And just because you're wealthy shouldn't give you the right to disrespect people and look down on them", Anna said pointing her hands to his face as she walked out the door.
Richard was left stunned, dumbfounded, the gaps in his mouth could fill a whale as she watched Anna walk out of her sight, no lady had stood up to him as she did.
Anna walked out of the restaurant in anger and frustration, the weather was cloudy, and the sky was dark, she reached for her car and there was a heavy downpour of rain blurring her windshield.
She let out a deep sigh, "If only I knew this was who I was coming to meet and the type of person he is, I wouldn't have bothered wasting my time waiting for him, he's so rude, arrogant, and full of himself", she muttered to herself.
"But I need this deal also, not for his money but for his name and connection, how will I live with such an arrogant man under the same roof?
