The Chaos

1304 Words
Sabrina's POV It sliced the night like a blade. High, gut-wrenching, full of pure terror. The music died instantly as heads whipped around in sync towards the direction. More shouts erupted near the Alpha's private quarters followed by murmurings and unrest as people tried to understand what was going on. Dad’s hand clamped on my arm, tight enough to bruise. “Stay with me, Sab.” He didn't need to tell me twice. Chaos swallowed us before anyone could realize what was happening. Just then, our warriors shoved through the crowd. Accusations began flying like sparks as news began spreading around the crowd. “Poison?” someone bellowed. “How could she?!” Poison? How could who? What's happening and why are they all staring at my family and I? We stayed at the same spot, wondering what was going on. “It was the Quinn’s tonic…and Celine’s bracelet was there!” one of the pack members said loudly. Fingers pointed at us within seconds. My family. The ones who had shared meals with the Alpha’s household for years. Before my father could say anything, cold iron chains snapped around our wrists. The metal bit into my skin, heavy and unforgiving. They dragged us forward, boots kicking up dirt that stung my eyes. The beautiful green dress caught on the ground, tearing. My heart hammered so hard I could barely hear my own thoughts. This couldn’t be happening. Not to us. My father is the beta! They forced us to our knees in the middle of the ceremony grounds, right where the swearing-in should have been. Torches blazed hotter, throwing wild shadows across faces that had smiled at us just minutes ago. Now those faces twisted with repulsion, anger, or cold silence. The Alpha stormed onto the raised platform, his face purple with grief and rage. “My mate…my Luna…is dead! Poisoned by these traitors! Poisoned by the person she trusts…my own beta's wife!” Mom’s voice cracked the air just then as they dragged her in by the hair, raw and desperate. “I’m innocent! We all are! I was only helping her. There's no way I would hurt Renee, you know that!” Tears cut tracks down her dirt-streaked face. She strained against the chains, her body shaking. “Please…listen to me, Alpha!” Dad roared beside me, fighting to get to her side until a heavy boot slammed into his side. The wet c***k made me flinch. Tyler looked at me, eyes wide with fear he’d never shown before. “Sabrina… if you get a chance…” His words were cut off right then. Because they didn’t give us a chance. The executions happened so fast that I couldn't breathe for almost five minutes. Too fast. No trial. No real questions. Just like that. A raised claw flashed under the moonlight as Mom’s final scream cut short. Hot blood sprayed across my cheek, the metallic tang flooding my nose and mouth. I watched as the light died in her eyes…as she coughed out blood. I gagged, bile burning my throat as I let out a heart crushing scream. Dad lunged one last time, cursing their names, shielding Tyler and I with his last strength. The claw fell again…digging into his heart. My brother’s eyes locked on mine…full of love, regret, goodbye…before the light left them as well. I was last. My knees sank into the warm, sticky mess of my family’s blood. It soaked through the silk, clinging cold and wet to my legs. I trembled so violently my teeth rattled. Grief clawed my chest open as hatred boiled underneath it, sharp and new. Why? We were loyal. Mom loved the Luna. We loved this pack. We were the closest family to the Alpha's. The Alpha's voice rang out again as everyone around yelled for my death. “End the bloodline!” I held my breath…waiting for it. Why would I fight or defend myself when my entire family is no more. Just then, a sudden growl echoed as the Alpha's son… Zane…burst through the crowd. He looked wild…broad shoulders heaving, face pale under the torchlight. Our eyes met across the bloody ground and the mate bond slammed into me like a speeding car. It was sharp, burning, undeniable as his scent filled my entire body. Even with my wolf bound and quiet, my soul knew him. Zane Grayson. Future Alpha. Son of the man who had just murdered my entire family right in front of me. For one frozen second, something raw and aching flickered in his gaze. But mine? They were filled with pure, blazing hatred. I opened my mouth, ready to spit the rejection that would sever us forever as the warrior raised his claw to strike me. Zane raised his hand just then. “Stop.” Stop? Why? A cold dread twisted through me. Please don’t tell me he was about to do something dramatic…like to spare my life because I was his mate. Because I would rather die than live knowing I belonged to the man who destroyed everything I loved. I would spend every breath hating him. Hunting him. Making him pay for my family. “Kill me!” I screamed, my voice breaking as tears, sweat, and the blood of my family stained my skin. “f*****g kill me, you cowards!” The warrior froze as his eyes flickered between the Alpha and Zane, waiting for the command that would decide my fate. The Alpha snapped, his rage tearing through the air. “Her family are traitors!” he roared. “Her mother murdered your own mother…my Luna! I want every last one of them dead!” Zane didn’t look away from me. He stepped closer, his boots sinking into the blood beneath him…the blood of my family. The bond between us pulled violently, a cruel reminder of what we were supposed to be. What the universe had chosen. I hated him. I wanted him. The bond made me want him so badly. And I wanted to tear him apart for it. He stopped in front of me, towering over me like a monster wearing a man’s face. Slowly, he bent down until his eyes were level with mine. A cold, humorless smile twisted his lips. “So this is the universe’s idea of a joke?” he whispered. “After waiting for years…it gives me the wolf less daughter of a murderer as my mate?” His words cut deeper than any blade. I spat in his face. “I hate you. I hate every single one of you,” I snarled, my voice shaking with fury. “You killed my family. You destroyed everything I had. And you think I’m going to accept this quietly?” My eyes burned with tears that I refused to let fall. “Kill me,” I spat. “Do it. Because if you don’t…if you let me live, I swear I will find a way to destroy every single one of you.” For a moment, there was only silence. Then Zane laughed. Not a normal laugh. A cold, empty sound that sent chills through me. “No.” He wiped the spit from his face, his eyes darkening. “No, killing you would be the easy way out. You don’t get that mercy.” “Just kill me!” I screamed, fighting against the warriors holding me back. “I hate you! I hate you all!” My voice cracked as I forced out the words that would end everything before I die. “I reject—” Pain exploded across my temple as his hand struck before I could finish. The world shattered into a blur of white and darkness. The last thing I saw was Zane’s cold, unreadable face. Then everything went black.
