NARA The guards grabbed my arms, dragging me toward the exit. My vision blurred with tears, my heart shattering with every step. I turned one last time, looking at Xander and Elle, their smiles cruel and triumphant. This wasn’t just betrayal. It was annihilation. As they disappeared from view, I made a silent vow. I would find a way to escape from this sinkhole of shame. It wasn't up to five minutes that the guards threw me out of the halls, my knees grazed the hard floor, skin peeling to reveal white flesh with blood oozing out of it in seeps. I winced in pain and like reflex cowered on my side, my breath coming out in hushes. One of the man gave a scoff eating my instant attention and fury "Oops!" He said with a mock sense of pity, angry tears stained my eyes as he walked closer to me, squatting to my level "That serves you right, infact I believe you deserve worse than that," he spat and the other guard stood still, unmoving. "A mere omega... Even the sight of you within this vicinity has me itching to put you in your place!" The guards threatened again and I flinched. How did I not realize that perhaps many people hated me for even existing? As the guard struggled with an anger I didn't understand, I smelled Ellie and she was close by. The guards straightened up and I started to nurse my knees as Ellie emerged out of the shadows. Bitterness clouded my heart instantly, a foreign feeling that still didn't feel real. "Seems like that was all I had to do for you to calm the f**k down," she said and my lips remained pursed. "What a show, you know you were right earlier today," she gave a bit of a chuckle and came closer to me. "Today turned out to be historic," she whispered and laughed but I didn't join her. Infact I started to gather up my courage to try to stand on my woblling feet. "I only have one request," I began, breaking up her mocking laughter. "If you wanted Xander, why do this to me?" I asked still unable to process the betrayal. "Why didn't you take him and cut the bond from the beginning? Why make me feel special, egg me on, cheer for an us that never existed? Why embarrass me in front of so many people? Why?" I asked, trying to not show how much my voice was breaking from the pain that all of these had caused. Ellie smiled, evil glints in her eyes as she sized me up then leaned a little closer "because sometimes, you need the lesson taught in public so other students can pay attention." She said and my brows rose. What the hell did that mean? She balanced her weight properly and looked at me from her nose, her aura suddenly changing into something or superiority. "Now that the lesson has been learnt, I've got some news for you. Xander has given me a wedding present!" She squealed in delight and my head grew heavy and fell into a bow. Tears threatening to fall again. "He has given me some of my Luna authority and my first act is that of..." She trailer and snatched my chin to look at her. "Mercy," she said and snatched her hand back, the act making her nails give me a tiny slice on my chin. I winced in pain and she chuckled. "I will not be having you killed for thinking Xander liked you and creating a stupid and ridiculous dream for your unattainable fantasy, instead I would be reinstating you to your original title!" She squealed in delight while my eyes widened in horror. My original title? Did she mean... "Yes! You're back to being a slave baby girl!!" She announced and I gasped in horror. "B—but X...Xander..." "Yes, but I'm the one in charge now... So I have the right to overrule whatever happened last year. So starting from tonight, you have your duties back and you are to be my personal slave as penance for the stupid theatrics you pulled earlier" she spat. My eyes were swollen from crying but I still had more tears to give. "So pack whatever belongings you have and make your way to your old room. You would take over every maid's duty tonight and make sure you finish up because tomorrow the real fun starts. It's high time I remind you your place in this pack, believe me I've been itching to do so from the moment I met you, it was disgusting watching you, a maid have maids attend to your every whim. A privilege you clearly have no rights to and that you don't deserve," she spoke and eyes me before attempting to walk away. I couldn't believe my ears let alone say something that would wake me up from this nightmare. Today has been destined to be historic for me and in violent ways, my prediction had come to pass. "You heard the Luna! Stand up!" The guards spoke harshly but I couldn't force my legs to stand up. My mind was faraway transfixed on memories of my life last year, how horrible I had been treated as a maid... The abuse, the punishments, the endless chores. Somehow I knew that I would die if I endured that again. 'You need to run or else you would die as a slave' a voice said to me at the back of my head as the guard violently cupped my arms and pulled me up. The force sending my knees buckling and a devastating pain erupting from it. I screamed and fell back on to the floor, my back and dress getting torn violently. "Stand up!!" The guards screamed at me once more but I started to sob, placing my hands in front of me pleadingly. "Please," I begged "I need to see the doctor, please" I begged some more but the man looked even more angry as I begged. "Please!! I'll do my chores after I've gotten some ointments. An Omega is entitled to even that!" I spat and he sneered in mockery. The guards escorted me as I limped towards the doctor's quarters but unknown to them I knew a secret back way at the doctor's office and I had no intention of becoming a slave to Ellie. I had no plans of staying in this sinkhole of disgrace. They wanted to go with me but I turned around and held a hand to them "it would only take a minute, I promise" I said and I knew it was going to take more than that to convince them so I cried and looked even more pathetic. "Please," I begged again and the other guard who has been quiet all through touched the arm of the other and he scoffed before pulling back. The moment their backs were turned against me, I walked quickly into the office and went through the secret passage way I had discovered last year. It led directly to the woods, if I ran quickly enough I could go far unnoticed. As I went through the short tunnel I was careful not to make a sound but unknown to me that the place had fallen into ruins, in the dark abyss of the tunnel I lost my footing to some bricks and a scream left my lips and that was my undoing. I pulled myself up, running as fast as I could trying to get to the end of the tunnel as fast as I could as I heard hurried footsteps down the tunnel. I quickly crawled out of the tunnel to find a group of soldiers waiting at the other end, their eyes red and angry. Someone seized me by the waist as the guards crawled out only to scream in horror. Warning bells suddenly went off somewhere in the pack and I started to realize that something else was amiss, when the strange looking soldiers clad in another uniform attacked the guards that were following me. A scream erupted from my throat but it was too late, something strong hit back of my head but before I passed out, I remembered one of the guards screaming that moonwater pack was under attack. My eyes cracked open, smell of clean air wafted through my nose as I realized that I was moving. My eyes widened in horror when I found out I was in a carriage and we had just rolled to a stop. Two hefty looking men were now standing in front of the door they had opened and I was hunched towards the wall of the other side of the carriage. My heart beating twice as fast sweat coming from my forehead. The men sneered as one of them lurched into the carriage and picked me like I weighed nothing, my dress once beautiful was a mess, dirty and torn in different areas. I fought against the man, hit him on his back and screamed but to no avail as I suddenly found myself thrown to the floor like a rag doll. The room was a throne and it was empty. I tried to scramble to my feet but the force of hitting my body like that made the pain twice as hard. I winced and groaned but the men laughed. "Who are you? What do you want?" I asked, holding my stomach and trying to hide but they don't answer me as other men started to trope into the room, their eyes red and angry with different girls on their backs. "Let me go!" One of the other girls begged before a slap landed on her face and the rest of us flinched in horror. Tears brimmed in my eyes as I started to notice small details. Number one — this wasn't the moonwater pack. And I started to recognize the uniforms that the the rough looking men were wearing, a gasp escaping my lips before I made eye contact with one of them. His voice echoing loud and clear " Welcome to Blackwoods! All hail Alpha Rhegan!" My breath caught in my throat as a man came out of the shadows, a powerful aura resonating from him so powerful, I trembled where I knelt. Rumors of the Blackwoods were witch stories told to children to get them to behave, their cruelty and their slave trade, all of which I thought was a myth until now. Everyone bowed but fear made me stay rooted to the spot, my eyes widening as I realized that just like the way I was staring at him, he was staring right back at me.
