ZERA was holding on to her spell that allowed her to float, while her ally was wreaking havoc on the enemy they were facing now.
Enviably, Kin had the dragon’s power to fly. Two dark blue dragon wings that were shining with lightning currents sprouted in his back. They were beautiful.
She wanted wings, too.
The reason why they were fighting in the air was because the demoness boss of that lair filled the swampy ground with snakes. Those were poisonous and her mana wasn’t enough to heal every “Poison” ailment it would inflict on them.
The demoness, Lamashtu, had a lion’s head with her body covered with black filthy hairs; her long fingernails were sharp and bloody. It was a level 80 demon that commanded and summoned serpents.
This demon was way out of her league. Even though her level increased rapidly during this advent, especially in this lair, level 55 was still too weak compared to it.
“I will fight, too!” she shouted at Kin so he could hear her.
“Focus on supporting spells!” he shouted back as he slashed the Lamashtu with his sword that had powerful lightning raging over it. The lightning that struck the demon was blinding.
Zera covered her eyes. “But…”
Enemy’s nails slashed back at Kin. Those nails were lengthy, it still clawed his avatar waist even though he evaded it. He winced as his HP meter shortened a little.
She cast a healing spell on him immediately. She could only restore half the damage he just received. She cast it again. Her spells were levelling up and were becoming more powerful. But she was still striving to catch up in this fight. Her mana was also dwindling.
She stole mana from their enemy again.
This time though, Lamashtu turned its yellow eyes on her. It howled. Its breath spitted serpents towards her.
She swiftly flew away from it. But the demoness followed her, still spitting snakes. Before it caught on her, Kin was already in front of her, providing a lightning shield that electrified and killed serpents that were launched on them.
“It’s strong. Are you sure you can fight it alone?” She was a little worried.
“Yes,” he replied confidently.
“I have enough mana to cast attack spells.”
“Your attack level was too weak. It will not damage the enemy. You’re just wasting your mana.”
“But I want to help!” And also to train her attack spells.
“You’re helping me plenty enough.” He glanced over at her. “Focus on white spells.”
And now he was ordering her to use her light-attribute spells that he was so against using moments ago.
“I want to fight, too,” she insisted.
“No. We will not win if you join in the attacks.”
“Are you insulting me again?” She was irritated with him belittling her always.
“This is not the time to argue. We will lose if we don’t play on our strengths.”
“We can start again if we lose. There’s no problem with that. At least, allow me to attack just once.”
“I said no.” His voice became grim. She was startled. The seriousness and anger in his eyes when he turned to her were frightening. “For you, it’s that easy. For me, it’s a matter of life and death. The problem with players like you is your carefree attitude. Thinking everything is just a game. It’s not! It’s annoying. I shouldn’t have let you join me.”
Here he went again saying “players like you”. She wanted to ask about it and why was he angry, but she stopped herself. She felt she would just worsen his mood. She could see from his expression how he was dead serious about this battle. She somehow felt guilty from pestering him.
He turned back to the demon and attacked it with a lightning dragon’s spell. The sharp light from his attack pierced the enemy and brought currents of electricity flying everywhere.
Even if she was not affected by it, and Kin was in front of her shielding her from the blast, she could still feel the trembling in the air due to that attack. Lamashtu’s life was going down drastically and continued to decrease.
But before it died, it howled in pain making the serpents in the ground glow. The familiar shining lines of light in their body appeared. Those things were going to explode!
“Speculum Circulus!”
The serpents exploded with vivid violet poison together with the Lamashtu, who self-destructed after grinning evilly. The explosion was wide-scaled and strong. It shook the lair. The thick purple smoke filled the room instantly.
That poison might have reached them if she did not cast a defensive spell that created a circular light barrier around each of them.
Kin was surprised while looking at the smoke outside.
“I’m sorry,” she apologized. She knew when she offended someone and, same from the real world, she couldn’t bear it. Although, she didn’t know why he was offended. “For upsetting you.”
He sighed then faced her. His voice was calm now.
“I apologize, too. I snapped. I lost my head there. I did not expect the demon to release this powerful spell before it dies. How did you know those snakes will discharge poison?”
“I don’t,” she admitted sincerely. “I’m expecting them to explode. Just like one of my spells that formed a shining line of light that explodes the insides of the enemy.”
“Ah, that spell,” he said, remembering the spell that she used to kill the River Leviathan.
The poison subsided just in time her barrier magic vanished. They fell and landed in the empty ground. Their rewards window popped out congratulating them.
“Are you still angry at me?” she asked while reading the rewards. Her jaw almost dropped upon seeing the generous amount of rewards.
“No.”
He scanned the reward window that popped in front of him. It was odd that his window was the colour of red.
She noticed it from the first time his window appeared—the time when she sent him an invite— though she didn’t think about it seriously. She thought it was just a theme that could be unlocked at a certain high level.
“Thanks… for helping me,” he said awkwardly.
“You’re welcome.”
He was awkward but he was cute.
She smiled as she accepted the large amount of rewards. She turned to him. Her character levelled up, together with her skills and spells that she used in the battle.
“So… are you giving me relevant answers now to my questions?”
His lips twitched into a half smile. It was the first smile he had ever shown her since the first moment they met. In fact, it was the first positive expression he had shown on his face.
“Maybe...” He accepted the rewards and pushed the red window aside. He brought out a warp stone from his pocket. “Maybe the next time we meet.”
She panicked. Was he just going to leave like that?
“What? That’s unfair!” she whined.
“There’s only one last thing I wanted to tell you. If ever we won’t see each other again...” That mysterious glow of seriousness in his eyes returned while he stared intently at her. “This game isn’t what you think it is.”
His cold ice blue eyes were drowning her. She had not yet gotten over with his smile. She had to focus her hardest on what he said to understand it.
“You’re talking in riddles, you know? It doesn’t make sense. And don’t leave me hanging here! I still wanted to know how you became a Dragon Class. Where did that classification come from? What do you mean by the things you said before?”
“Don’t dwell too much on it. It’s better if you don’t know. Then… `till we meet again.” He talked to the warp stone. “Warp to Abyss.”
“Wait!” She caught his arm. “I just told you not to leave me hanging! It’s bad for my health!”
He just smiled down at her, looking amused, as the glow from the stone engulfed him. Sadly, a warp stone can only teleport one person.
There he vanished in an instant. She stomped her feet out of irritation and dismay. She had expected that he would not answer all of her questions right now. But instead of gaining at least one or two more answers, he left her with more questions.
Now she didn’t even know when they would meet again. She didn’t know where she would find him or where he came from. She absolutely did not get information about his whereabouts. All she knew was that he was a super strong Dragon Class player with a red character window.
And “Abyss”? Where the hell was that?
