I dedicate this book to my dad, "Daniel Reed" who has a part in every single one of my books. Although you had been sick every day of your life since I was a child, You still did your best to be a great father. You were always so proud of my artwork and ridiculous creations, I just wish you could see that I finally finished this book. (even though you wouldn't have liked it) I love you Dad and miss you terribly, Hopefully one day we'll meet again and you'll still be proud..

LAYLA'S Perspective~
My name is Layla Ann Rhodes, and to say I'm not like most teenagers would be an understatement.
I have long chocolate brown hair, light green eyes, that can change depending on my mood, full lips, a decent smile, and a natural honey-toned complexion.
I've never been an unattractive person but I guess when the most popular girl in the school hates you... Everyone else does too. I spend most of my time trying to be invisible, which usually works when it comes to school but not at home.
I've always been really small for a Beta, although when puberty hit I filled out quite a bit. I've been told I have a beautiful pear-shaped body.
If only my fashion sense could keep up.
That being said I'm excited. Because in 3 days on my 18th birthday, I will have my first shift and become a wolf.
It's not like in the movies, it's more of an inherited gene, from both my parents Tanya and Jacob Rhodes.
Most wolves live in private communities called packs. We have our own medical facilities, schools, and other businesses.
It may seem kind of cultish to most people, but to wolves it's completely normal.
Having our closed community protects our anonymity, it is of utmost importance in keeping our secrets.
My father held the esteemed position of Beta in our pack, a role he fulfilled poorly, and he is now in the process of transitioning the title to his successor. In our pack hierarchy, the Beta occupies the position of second-in-command and is the second strongest member. They bear thel responsibility of shouldering much of the pack's work, supporting the Alpha in various capacities.
The Alpha, as the paramount figure, embodies the epitome of strength and serves as the unquestioned leader of the pack. Their directives are the law of the land, except in cases that contravene wolf law, which are rare and would require reporting to the wolf Council. In our pack, the Alphas wield considerable authority and their decisions hold sway over most matters.
A Luna assumes the crucial role of the pack's nurturer and caregiver. Once an Alpha chooses a mate, the chosen individual undergoes training and assumes the mantle of Luna, sharing equal status with the Alpha and tending to the welfare of the pack.
As the third strongest-ranking wolf in the pack, the Gamma holds a position of significant importance, often responsible for nurturing and attending to the needs of the Alpha and Luna. They function as a confidant and a stabilizing influence, adept at managing moods and offering counsel to pack members during challenging times. Gammas play a pivotal role in decision-making and are renowned for their ability to provide a voice of reason as circumstances demand. However, our soon-to-be Gamma lacks essential traits vital to the role, such as empathy, kindness, and sound judgment.
Among the pack members, Omegas are typically relegated to the role of servants, heavily dependent on others. They often undertake tasks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, and various other responsibilities as dictated by the pack's needs.
I've always believed that Omegas are undervalued and underappreciated. Packs would falter without their contributions, as they are the backbone of our community, tirelessly tending to myriad essential tasks that ensure the pack's smooth functioning.
Sometimes I feel as if I'm treated like an Omega, although, I'm very high ranked in the pack.. it doesn't seem to matter.
Anyway, as long as you're working in the pack you are always taken care of, everyone has their place and duties they must perform it helps the pack run smoothly. But if you don't have a pack you're considered a Rogue.
Rogues are wolves that were either banished or left their pack for one reason or another.
Being on their own is very dangerous, so their wolf takes over to protect their human counterpart. Leading them to be more animalistic. They are wild animals considering they usually hide out and seek solitude in the forest to avoid predators or other packs without human contact.
After about a month all traces of humanity are usually gone and they become feral and sometimes ferocious beasts.
Unfortunately, they cannot be reasoned with, so most rogues will be put to death if it's too late. If I could have I would have already went rogue. But I know I cannot survive out there I'm too small and lack knowledge of the outside world.
We are also gifted fated mates by our Creator the Moon Goddess.
The Moon Goddess picks one special person just for you, everything from their smell to how they talk is created to perfectly fit you.
It gives a whole new meaning to soulmates.
It's knowing what you want and what you must have, and realizing that you will never want anything else ever again when you look into their eyes. If the mate bond is completed your mate can bring out the best in you. But that doesn't mean it always works out.
Considering wolves are incredibly possessive it makes the bond so much more intense.
The mate bond is so strong that being rejected can lead to suicide but it's very uncommon. It's love at first sight and smell that's the best way to explain it.
When you find your mate you usually smell them first. The smell is usually so addictive and alluring you can't help but chase it, when you do it leads to your mate.
That being said in 3 days I will be able to find my Mate as well.
I have been waiting so long, hoping that one day I would be free of this pack and escape the torturous ways of my stepmother Marie Harlow.
I'm forced to cook, clean, do laundry, and wait on her hand and foot all day long.
If I failed to complete her list of many tasks there are usually dire consequences.
Maybe a broken limb, or lashings sometimes she'll starve me. There are so many things she's done. Marie even went so far as to have her youngest son torture me.
We attend the same school, so he likes to come up and take my lunch so I can't eat.
Then I go home and I'm not allowed to eat either, luckily my friends help me at school and my brother does what he can.
My friend's parents packing an extra sandwich, chips, or juice is how I've been surviving.
My day consists of taking orders and constant abuse from anyone who decides to grace me with their presence.
I have no hobbies, I'm not allowed to have a phone because they don't want to pay the bill. Even though I said I would do it myself.
My existence is a pathetic one since my mother died and my father found his second chance mate.
Yes! The Moon Goddess can gift you a second chance mate, it doesn't happen for everyone, but once in a while it does.
When it does you better take it, you don't get a third.
So of course you will take that chance, just like my father.
My father's second Chance mate is a mega b***h and the daughter of an Alpha. Although she doesn't hold a high position in our pack.
Marie has long stringy bleach-blonde hair, pale skin, grey eyes, and very sharp features, for a woman she's not the least bit feminine.
Her hips are very wide, and she always looks like she's wearing an outfit 10 sizes too small.
You could see every dent and dimple on her body. She dresses very distastefully. Her breasts hang out all over the place, so much so that I worry she might smother my little brother every time they hug.
And no, I'm not body-shaming her!
Big women are beautiful, but Marie is rotten on the inside and is constantly body-shaming me.
Sometimes I think she does it because she's insecure about her own body.
She flirts and throws herself at anyone she comes in contact with. I've tried numerous times to alert my father to this and her possible affairs, but she throws on the fake tears and puckers out her bottom lip and he always believes her.
I never understood what my father saw in her, how can he be mated to someone so opposite to my mother?
However, I have half brothers who are opposite of each other. My oldest little brother Taylor is nice to me and is an amazing person, he always sticks up for me when it comes to his mother.
They don't get along very well
but the youngest Kyle is just like his mother. Anything he can do to make my life living hell is his ultimate goal.
I feel sorry for his mate if he ever gets one.
I think that if I didn't have Taylor, Kayla, and Melissa, I wouldn't have made it through. I would have given up a long time ago.
Melissa, Kayla, and I have been a trio since I could talk.
We are more like sisters, and their parents love me too.
They always went out of their way to make me feel special, living the way I do, it makes a world of difference.
The school I attend is a school for werewolves, although they put up a front as a prestigious private school, that only the elite can get into....well that's what the humans think anyway.
Little do they know it's swarming with all ranks of werewolves.
That's another thing that the movies get wrong.
Wolves don't eat people or kill anything for sport, we respect mother nature and her creatures. We're human too, the only time we violently use our wolf is to protect ourselves, our loved ones, or our territory from potential threats or danger.
This can be achieved through various means such as security systems or military defense. Just like humans, we have our laws and rules that we have to abide by or we will also be punished.
We love the Moon and the Moon Goddess, who is our Creator...
We can change and transform into our beasts whenever we want.
Although we are possessive creatures, and territorial at times we are not particularly dangerous. But we can be if you piss us off.
Now that I got most of the explanation out of the way, I can begin to tell you my story.
★♥♥★
I will warn you about this story it contains abuse, suicidal thoughts, s****l situations,s*x, S.A., and vulgar language. And parts of the story are probably going to piss you off, but I hope you still keep reading. There is an on scene S.A in this book in the upcoming chapters. This is not a fairy tale there are some unhappy elements to the story so if that's what you're expecting you probably shouldn't read it. Although Layla does get her very own happy ending .
